Manky post-partum hair

Doesn't help that the hair is pretty fine and so can look thin at the best of times, but I'm now on the third month of post-partum hair loss with it still coming out in handfuls. The three year old says in horror 'Mummy you are going to be as bald as a coot', and I'm beginning to agree with him!

Beyond the hairloss, it's just looking a bit limp and depressing - not sure whether because there's just less of it, or whether the general condition is affected. I've had a good, low-maintenance cut, so short of cropping the whole lot to start again I don't think there's much else I can do from that angle - has anyone got any tips or recommendations of vitamins, potions or lotions that might make a difference?

A variety of shampoos & conditioners - only buy cruelty-free so at the moment I have Faith in Nature's seaweed, and New from Lush which seems quite good.

I lost handfuls of hair post baaby, scarily so. i'm losing loads now too, looks like I ahve hair gloves on when I wash. Are there bald bits on your head? or just uncontrollable? There are thickening shampoos and conditioners and sprays..not sure about the cruelty free credentials however!

I felt like I was losing loads, and dd kept pulling it out while feeding. A blunter shorter cut helped.

I'm in the same boat. Fine hair at baseline but lots of it IYKWIM. So my hair generally looks thick and curly. DS2 is nearly 4 months old now and my hair started coming out a week ago.
I was dreading this. Soooo much hair fell out after DS1... basically I'd say 2 thirds of my hair fell out in the end. It went from thick and curly to skinny and lank and there wasn't a bloody thing I could do about it. It was awful.
It only just started getting back to normal around the time I got pg last year ( so I don't know if it was just the pg or if it really was getting back to itself)

So this time I had a plan.. I've been trying to take a multivit with all the B vits, iron and zinc since DSs birth ( I had planned on taking it every day but that kind of slipped off the radar... back on it now and hopefully will manage to remember it.) I'm told that a diet high in protein helps.. don't eat much meat etc so have been trying to up my intake.

Last night I ordered Nioxin System 2 www.amazon.co.uk/Nioxin-Starter-Kit-System-2/dp/B002M50E16/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1287970313&sr=8-5 on amazon.

Apparently it helps. Will let you know.

...and a tip, I've linked the amazon UK site. I'm in the US and ordered it from Amazon.com.. $28... a lot cheaper.

BTW the info on the B vitamins, zinc , oton and protein were gleaned from a thread on MN!

I used the Kerastase men's shampoo and spray for hair loss. When it started to grow back that is. My hairdresser said not to get a restyle and keep getting regular trims as well. Also had some lowlights through the underneath to make it look thicker. DD is 10 months and I'm just starting to look less bald at the front!

ektorpjennylund · 26/10/2010 03:03

Iron I meant. Not oton. Confused
KDDZDNT ... great name!

OhBuggerandArse · 26/10/2010 17:06

But oton might have been the magic ingredient that would suddenly make us all thick-haired and glossy! Was all prepared to google!

Thanks for the suggestions, all.
