What kind of places do you like?
Hope St. Hotel is great. There is also a Malmaison, Radisson etc. Avoid the Adelphi
Shopping is fantastic - Liverpool One for normal shops,Bold Street, Quiggins for vintagey things.
Albert dock has nice bars and restaurants.
Casa Italia is very well known in Liverpool as is Cafe Tabac during the day
Also Alma de Cuba and Ziba

We'd like a nice comfy hotel (too old and grumpy to make do with a budget one). Near the train station maybe, and near good 'different' shops if poss.

There is a hotel in queens square - think it's Marriott or Raddisson that is near everywhere. Avoid Malmaison and anything else in the same area as that as they are on the docks. Liverpool One, Paradise area and Bold street are all within good reach of the hotel.
Have a good time!

The premier inn at Albert Dock is an absoloute bargain and really lovely - being in old dock building.

Just echoing what every one else has said :) Liverpool One/Met Quarter are great for shopping. Living here though, I always fail to see the attraction, it's much like most other city centres :) but you'll have a great time, plenty to do here.

I'd second the Premier Inn at the Albert Dock, especially if you're going to spend most of your days out shopping. It's lovely inside and you're right on the dock front.

Have a lovely time :)
