Am perusing the Boden site for offers on kid's clothes and have come across this:

dress

which I find myself contemplating. I am being daft aren't I?
I am not a teenage mum (mid 30s), although could pass for younger and am quite petite. I am liking the navy floral version.

Tried this one on:
this
and it was fine with leggings (ie not unsuitable) but gaped strangely at the waist so was sent back.

Please talk me out of this if I am being foolish!

I like the first, hate the second.

Go for it. Mid '30's is hardly old (says she at 37 and in massive denial Grin)

arfasleep · 21/10/2010 18:01

They're both quite short, do you have good (ie slim) legs? if so would be fine

sleepyhead3 · 21/10/2010 19:37

Yes, slim legs.

verytelly- I don't feel old- just don't want to look like mutton dressed as lamb!

Anyone else care to venture an opinion?

I am 34 - size 8-10 and lots of people assume I am mid to late 20s. I have bought things from Johnnie B Range - T-shirts, accessories and most recently the check shirt dress that I wear over leggings and jeans. Go for it!!!

sleepyhead3 · 21/10/2010 20:03

They are so much more reasonably priced than the women's range and less frumpy too (not that all of it is frumpy but some definitely is)!

Thank you :)

My DD would love that dress - the first one. It is exactly the kind of thing she buys from New Look.

She is 16 Grin

sleepyhead3 · 21/10/2010 20:24

SLTS- that is exactly what I was worried about!
I showed it to my DD (not yet a teenager) and she told me that I shouldn't get it because a teenager would like it!
Seriously though, do you think it would look strange on a woman who is slim and looks 30ish with leggings/ thick tights/ cardi?

OP posts:
Meggles76 · 21/10/2010 21:17

I am now considering the silk dress in that range with a cardi tights and boots. With discounts I have it would be £20! Am I being foolish?

GeekyGirl · 21/10/2010 21:27

Look, if you think of it as a top rather than a dress, you could absolutely get away with it for many years to come. You could wear jeans and boots with it too.

Meggles76 · 21/10/2010 21:32

Good point Geeky Smile

sleepyhead3 · 21/10/2010 22:31

meggles- I think I've been a bad influence!

Meggles76 · 22/10/2010 20:58

YES SLEEPY Grin - I will tell DH it is all your fault
But after your post, I was browsing and realised there was 30% off and I could use the XTHB code on top - so it was £20 Smile
Ordered the large as I want it looses and not too short but may have to send back for the medium if too big.
Did you order the dress?

sleepyhead3 · 22/10/2010 21:01

Good for you meggles! Your DH won't be able to tell me off and £20 is quite a bargain for silk!
I did order but will have to wait a bit.
The good thing about Boden is that it can be returned for free if unsuitable :)

Meggles76 · 22/10/2010 21:06

There are often long waits on Boden stuff. I missed out on the boyfriend cardigan in silver and it's only October - grrr

SmellsLikeTeenSweat · 22/10/2010 21:44

I would say 'Go for it'.

sleepyhead3 · 23/10/2010 13:53

It is frustrating when they run out so early in the season or you have to wait until December..

It's also a bit of a gamble as to whether to wait until the Boden sale as I find the stuff totally overpriced.
I have been in the habit of buying most of the DCs clothes in the Gap sale when they are twice reduced and they are v reasonable (much cheaper than Boden) and good quality. Some of the Boden items are v stylish and unique though!

OP posts:
Meggles76 · 23/10/2010 17:45

TBH, only buy DC's things when there is 20% or more off. I also never buy their shoes for myself at full price as I think they are way over priced.

gorehaginhellsbum · 24/10/2010 09:58

I bought the dress in the navy floral (more of a 2 week wait than 13 weeks!)
TBH it's bloody lovely.
However......it's a puffball shape which emphasizes my hips. If you have a figure like an Olympic high jumper then it's great. It also rides up a bit over the bum making it even shorter.Maybe with navy opaques or similar it would look OK.

Am loathed to send it back cos it's so lovely so would advise yo try it and have a look.

Meggles76 · 24/10/2010 10:03

I am awaiting my arrival of the silk tunic/dress... will report back when it arrives Smile

I have also ordered the Johnnie B slouch trousers in the dark grey... have a feeling I will e returning these though... anyone tried them?

sleepyhead3 · 24/10/2010 13:39

gore-I've ordered that colour too. Pleased to hear that you like it! My bum is the biggest part of me- no Olympic high jumpers here!
Will have try and see....

Matsikula · 24/10/2010 13:56

I also prefer it to the grown-up stuff and it's VAT-free, too. I guess that's why so much of it is sold out in the large sizes.

BendyBobbingApples · 24/10/2010 14:03

As tops - yes def.

Blimey you're young (yes you are!) and slim..go for it!!Grin

sleepyhead3 · 24/10/2010 19:59

Thx bendy- you're really kind!
