Best foundation for huge open pores and shiny tendencies?

I was thinking about mineral foundation but reading a few threads here I'm not sure it'll give me the coverage I need.

I have very visible pores around my nose and I tend to get shiny - but I'm 39 so can't take anything too drying.

At present I use a Chanel matt foundation which is not bad, but sometimes looks a bit thick.

Any recommendations welcome

use a primer first, can,t remember the name of it but Clarins do one in a little red pot I found it really good to smooth my skin which sounds similar to yours

Mm yes I've tried that, Estee Lauder does a good one too, they do make a difference I think although I can't always be bothered to put on (or pay for) an extra layer.

Any ideas on foundation?

I have similar skin to you.

You need a good primer first. I use the MAC prep and prime spf 50. It's much more mattifying than the non spf version.

Then Diorskin Nude on top of that. This combination works really well for me.

I've tried so many foundations, and virtually all of them slide off my face.

This combination is my holy grail.

Sounds great Celery, thanks

My mum's just given me some Diorskin to try - stroke of luck! Is Nude a shade or a sub-type of that foundation?

It's a subtype. There are a few Diorskin foundations. I use the liquid version of Diorskin Nude, it also comes in a mineral powder version, and a compact. Can't comment on how good those are, though.

bobbi brown oil free foundations are v good - and definitely a good primer.

The L'Oréal surfacing primer is absolutely amazing. I use it in conjunction with No7 stay perfect foundation and it keeps my skin tone even all day.

Try Benefit Porefessional

Thanks all. I'm getting the primer message :) I think I may have some of the Clarins stuff hidden away somewhere.

I might try the No7 foundation - a cheaper option than Chanel would be nice
