Going for my first girlie shop with a pal on Saturday since DS born nearly 8 months ago. I've totally lost all sense of style I once had so what's nice and which shops should I go to? I'll be flexing my flexible friend in Edinburgh!

Never been to Edinburgh and I don't know your body shape so it's hard to suggest particular shops to try.

Buy a couple of high street friendly fashion type magazines before you go, they should give you an idea of what styles and shapes are in.

Personally I'll be trying out the cropped trousers and long boots look this autumn/winter. FWIW, I think the gypsy/boho look is now a bit passe.

Harvey Nicks! Nah - seriously - like to go in for a look but have never bought anything there.

not sure what your style is, or budget, but if you're blowing the plastic apart my advice would be to trawl the length of George street as all the good shops are there - coast, whistles, hobbs, phase 8, karen Millen. Zara and Gap on princes street. I also like House of Fraser and Debenhams as they have lots of smaller concessions....

there are also some funky shops in the grassmarket that sell fun second hand stuff if that's yourbag - but has been so long since i went down there that i can't remember names.....
