would really like one of those long down padded coats. have seen a Tommy Hilfger one but is around £200! Only want to spend up to £100, has anyone seen any about and about? I dont go into shops very much, more of an online shopaholic!

i have been looking on the uniglo website and i cant find the padded coat with belt = can anyone do a link please.

also the north face one with a belt is hiding from me. theres a mum at football and am going to be brave and ask where she got hers from.

im only 5ft so need to be careful. tbh its probably the competely wrong coat for my height.

have lost weight recently so really want a fitted warm one this year. might be a petite one i need though really.

Meggles76 · 21/10/2010 19:29

SANDYCHICK - I ordered the petite fit and the XS is a few inches above the knee on me. The sleeve length is good and the proportions are good overall. Size down is my recommendation

teta · 21/10/2010 19:46

I'm 5ft3 and most down coats look like duvets on me.After much trying on i bought one in TK Maxx.It is Italian ,very fitted and very well cut.I also bought a red one for my 5 year old dd which has a belt and is very slimline on.I would recommend going in and lots of trying on or failing that go online [which i find is very hit and miss when your a shortie!]

chickenlickin · 21/10/2010 20:10

also just seen Gap do a nice one, about £90, also has a belt!! Does look quite nice. hummmmm now for the short list!

I got a Uniqlo one last year - best coat ever!

I have just washed in the the machine (said dry-clean only but Hey-Ho) and it has come out lovely, clean and fluffy.

SixtyFootGhooool · 21/10/2010 20:40

Ah thats nteresting Chewy, might bung mine in too, could do with it!

gorehaginhellsbum · 21/10/2010 21:33

Those Land's End Chevron ones are selling out fast! Esp in the smaller sizes - black and aubergine both not available and won't be coming back into stock.
Hurry if you want one of those.

thehairybabysmum · 21/10/2010 21:44

I got this one for xmas last year (good timing for the arctic weather!). It has a belt and is fabulous! Fraid not £100 though, was £180 i think but i reckon worth it.

beachyhead · 21/10/2010 21:51

Try Rohan - I got mine in the sale and it was fab....

chickenlickin · 22/10/2010 08:28

gap do a belted one around £90, look nice. umm is there any of those 30% off code, would be even nicer!

Sandychick I sent my petite fit Land's End back as the arms were too short and I'm 5'2". The length was very good though so am hoping the regular fit will be a compromise.
I have long limbs for a shortie maybe.

monkeysmama · 22/10/2010 11:15

Uniqlo ones are on sale today.

kylesmybaby · 22/10/2010 11:18

does anyone have a link to any of the coats with a belt on - even the gap one sounds good to me. thanks

edinburger · 22/10/2010 11:37

Hi

Please avoid the north face metropolis if you expect your expensive winter coat to be in any way water resistant!

I bought it last year (it is possible to get it for £150 from discount stores rather than for £199!) as an investment as I walk to and from work and needed something warm and (so I thought) practical to keep me cosy.

Unfortunately every time the weatehr was any thing other than day I got soaked to the skin. as you can imagine that woudl be most days in an Edinburgh winter!

When I returned to coat I was told that it was a down coat and was in no way water proof. Down absorbs moisture so it is only intended for cold DRY conditions. Perhaps I am ignorant and should have realised but I did expect a coat of that price from Northface to be wearable in at least light rain but apparently not.

The letter I got from Northface is classic.

gorehaginhellsbum · 22/10/2010 15:25

Today I got this delivered in pewter grey and I really like it.

I was suprised at how warm it was and it is sort of waterproof. Would've preferred the long one but this is only £29.50!

I'm waiting for a down coat to arrive but don't know whether I need it now.

CatBumMouth · 22/10/2010 22:50

I've returned the land's end chevron, didn't like the hood on it the fur looked matted and square and the lining looked quite cheap, had been looking forward to the spice brown colour but it didn't live up to my expectations. Pity, was very warm!

ZENZIZENZIZENZIC · 23/10/2010 20:20

Does the Lands End chalet long coat come up big or small? I am 16/18 but not sure whether to order that size or the next one up. I am going to take advantage of the 20% off.

I don't really care if I look like a big bug as long as I am warm this year!

Meggles76 · 23/10/2010 20:56

IMO Lands End come up big. I ordered a size down from my normal size and the chevron fits fine

passthecheese · 24/10/2010 10:32

I've bought a navy one from Mexx, they don't seem to have an online UK shop but found similar on a dutch site.

It is tapered at waist, has water repellent outer, and is down-filled and seems v warm. similar here

They don't do navy online but I found mine in Fenwicks at Brent Cross earlier this month. It cost £115.

gorehaginhellsbum · 24/10/2010 14:24

I sized down on the Land's End.
Wouldn't ever buy a small UK size but as it's a US brand they are slightly more generous.
Order your true size for a bit of room for jumpers or size down would be my advice.

kylesmybaby · 24/10/2010 17:05

still cant find the padded one with a belt to make it more fitted. willing to try anything now as desperate? thanks

kylesmybaby · 24/10/2010 17:08

forgot to say i have been freezing on the football pitch both yesterday and today so really am at yor mercy.

geordieminx · 24/10/2010 19:47
