my nana used to do that (she was 85)

do people really still do it these days ?

lindaloopyloo · 18/10/2010 15:17

According to my hairdresser they do. I have noticed as I've gotten older 45 that hair needs washing less and is more wiry. If it was less than a tenner I'd consider it.

hehe, your hairdresser is just after your regular money Wink

ShirleyGarrote · 18/10/2010 16:07

Get a blue rinse while you're at it!

(can you still get blue/purple/pink rinses?)

brimfull · 18/10/2010 16:10

mine gets greasy still and I am 49

I do remember my friends mum getting her hair done weekly , she must have been around the age I am now Hmm

brimfull · 18/10/2010 16:11

bloody hell I am 48 NOT 49

mind's going

GetOrfMoiLand · 18/10/2010 16:23

I could not do this. My hair looks like the wreck of the hesperus after a night's sleep, plus would feel skanky in the extreme if I did not wash my hair daily.

lindaloopyloo · 18/10/2010 16:24

I can see why you'd have it done. Whenever I get mine blow dried it looks like different hair. No fluffiness, no wiry sticky out bits. all smooth and lovely.

I have done this a few times. Hair needed serious washing after about 4 days and then tied back for about 2 days before blow dry. It costs £18 for a blow dry at my salon so too expensive .Saw a local one advertising c and b dry for £10 which would be doable if they made a good job of it

TheSquodgit · 18/10/2010 16:29

I would do it if I had the cash. My hair does not get greasy at all for days after washing. I need my hair colouring and cut every 6 weeks though so that tends to take up the funds I have for my mop.

sansucre · 18/10/2010 16:32

My mother went to the hairdressers once a week, and when I used to earn good money, I used to as well, but that was because my hair was such a nightmare to keep straight.

I have very dry, very curly/frizzy hair which tends to look better dirtier, so only washing it once a week wasn't something that bothered me. I can't recall ever having greasy hair.

Now I've finally mastered how to do my own hair, I still only wash it once a week, sometimes it's once every 10 days.

vintage4 · 18/10/2010 16:34

mesnt to say agree with lindaloopyloo my hair is like a different persons when hairdresser does it

Checkmate · 18/10/2010 16:43

I'm considering this too.

My hair doesn't get greasy, really. Its very long and best when washed every 5 days, and the last 2 days in a ponytail would be fine. I'd like to have it done every thursday, but not for another year until DC4 is in childcare some days. And only if I can find a hairdresser cheaper than the senior stylist I use for cut & colour, who can blowdry my hair the way she does.

Checkmate · 18/10/2010 16:43

Oh, and I'm early 30's!

MaudOHara · 18/10/2010 16:46

MIL (72) does it.

My hair would smell horrible if I didn't wash it for a week

chandra · 18/10/2010 16:50

Mine goes manky, in far less than a week. It smell horrible too. Having said that, I once went camping in the US (the great outdoors, no shower to be seen nearer than an hours drive), and I didn't wash my hair for a week. It was not that bad, I guess I just got used to the smell, though.

alemci · 18/10/2010 17:07

i have noticed that my hair stays cleaner longer when it is washed and blowdried at the hairdresser but would not last a week.

lindaloopyloo · 18/10/2010 17:11

Yes, my hair stays cleaner longer when the hairdresser washes it? why? anyway might consider doing this soon.
