Low rise jeans - why?

Bunbaker · 16/10/2010 16:35

Am I the only one who finds low rise jeans uncomfortable? I hate the feeling that they are slipping down and having to hitch them up all the time. If the jeans are tight they are uncomfortable to sit in when the top cuts into my tummy. Jeans on the waist don't do this.

Shops have started selling jeans that sit on the waist and guess what? They sell out as soon as they get them in.

always the same something fashion is very silly at times and the suppliers for some reason lose all commonsense even when they see what sells. Why is it always womens fashion too?

spidookly · 16/10/2010 16:43

Maybe people love that draughty feeling around their tummy?

I hate low rise jeans. I hated them even when I was a skinny malinks and I hate them even more now I have horrible post-baby tummy.

knobbingnowt · 16/10/2010 16:45

I always thought they were for people proud of their bum crack, or even worse want to share their pants with you.

Nowt worse than an eye full of crack or badly washed pants Shock

Butterbur · 16/10/2010 16:46

I hate on-the-waist jeans, because I have no waist. There's only 6 inches difference in my waist and hip sizes, so they always dig in. I don't like real low risers, but definitely prefer below the waist ones.

Bunbaker · 16/10/2010 16:50

Butterbur. Maybe it is our shape that is the deciding factor. My waist is 12 inches smaller than my hips and low rise jeans always slip down.

I fond them really flattering. Any that come up higher make me look too hippy.

It's the current fashion for skinny jeans that I'm having problems with because I have out of proportion thighs despite being size 6-8.

SweetnessAndShite · 16/10/2010 17:30

Eek! Can't do ultra low rise bum crack airers but equally couldn't bear my belly button being covered. It makes me feel claustrophobic!

Georgimama · 16/10/2010 17:32

If anyone can tell me where you can get "high" waisted (I don't want Simon Cowell style but "high" by comparison to the standard hipster look) jeans I would be very grateful.

OooeeeoooeeeoooeeEthel · 16/10/2010 17:34

I'm with MuGGGhoulWump. Low rise jeans suit me, I hate jeans on the waist because I am hour-glass figure and the waistband never goes in enough, I end up with a huge gap at the top. I hate things in my waist in general.

Bunbaker · 16/10/2010 17:36

OooeeeoooeeeoooeeEthel

I usually have your problem, but Gap do "curvy" jeans for those of us with hips and waists - and they fit!!!

Are they really high though Bunbaker?

I worry I'll look like my Mum (she's been dead 9 years and I still have a horror of her coming home with M&S purple jeans and a matching polka dot blouse) and they tend to make me look round in the middle.

As it is, apart from the thighs, I have a good figure and a really flat stomach and low cut seem to make the most of it.

I'm wearing low rise boot cut (but not too booty) Next petites today with a long sleeved tee and cropped cardi.
They make me look slim but curvy.

Bunbaker · 16/10/2010 18:01

No, they could be a bit higher, but they fit in all the right places.
The most comfortable pair of jeans I own are a pair of high waisters from Principles and are definitely not the sort of thing you would see teamed up with a frumpy top (unless you saw me walking down the streetWink)

i actually love low rise jeans, they look so much better on me, higher cut styles make me look like i have a big tummy (which i havent, am only a size 8!) but sadly i am finding them increasingly hard to find.

TondelayooohSchwarlock · 16/10/2010 18:16

Buy low-rises and you don't have to buy maternity jeans. Then you can be smug about fitting into your usual skinny jeans when 8 months pregnant.

I wear long tops to fight the draught.

cheapskatemum · 16/10/2010 18:30

Hated the low-rise fashion and am hour-glass figured, they gave me muffin tops and slipped down. I really feel the cold, so breeze around the belly button a distinct no no and supplies of longer tops seemed to lag way behind. Even then, with a close fitting longer top, I had a double hour glass re: muffin top. I'm sure MNers must've coined a term for this most unsightly phenomenon, but I don't know it, neither do I wish to be a victim of it!

superv1xen · 16/10/2010 18:40

i remember when hipster jeans first came in in the mid-late 90's - i used to wear them with crop tops as a size zero - pre kids teen ( Envy @ my pre kids figure) and my mum used to say, you will get kidney disease supervixen!!! (supposedly coz of my middle getting cold Hmm )

Bunbaker · 16/10/2010 18:45

Sorry to disappoint you superv1xen, but hipsters were in fashion in the 60s when I was a child.

OP posts:
MuGGGhoulWump · 16/10/2010 18:46

I used to wear them with crop tops too.
Just covering my boobs and jeans just covering my fanjo, no knickers.

I still like low cut but certainly do not wear them like that now!

superv1xen · 16/10/2010 18:52

bunbaker oh Blush

lol @ muggle - me too. in fact sometimes on nights out i would simpy wear a bikini top with them. (much to my poor parents worry) Envy

MuGGGhoulWump · 16/10/2010 19:01

I had many bikinis for just that purpose.

I remember my Dad giving me a lift once, and I pointed out my friend, he said, 'what, the one with the dress hardly covering her bum'?, and I told him it was my dress, and I'm an inch taller than her!

God I dressed like a cheap hooker, but hey, I had the figure for it.

This week I bought an adult babygro from Primark and covet a slanket.

How times change.Grin

katy315 · 22/10/2010 14:11

Marks and Spencer's £12 jeans all sit on the waist, (bootleg and skinny), the back of the jeans also is slighly higher than the front so they don't do that annoying thing of slipping down when you bend down.

dexter73 · 22/10/2010 17:31

I prefer low cut jeans. Not really low. The ones I am wearing today are about 3 inches below my belly button.

Paribus · 22/10/2010 20:40

Boden jeans (whispers...) are quite high.

bananapeanutbutter · 22/10/2010 20:49

(whispers back to paribus) are they any good?
