More expensive one

Double breasted (and grey, not black)

Not 100% sure what to do with the belt but love the coat

Hmm, to be honest, I think they all look rather cheap. I like the styling, just the fabric and cut looks a bit poor.

I could go into TK Maxx and get a really well cut coat for that money that would look better and age well. I think a coat should cost a bit of money, it works really hard and covers a multitude of sins Smile

SixtyFootGhooool · 15/10/2010 18:11

Dont really like any of 'em!

TrillianSlasher · 15/10/2010 19:24

Is £100 not a decent amount to spend on a coat any more?

TK Maxx (or at least the two nearest me) rarely have anything nice for women at all. And what they do have they have one of, not in my size. Good for men's t-shirts though, if you are willing to flick through 500 of the things.

Yes, 100 is fine, am just saying that I spent that in TK Maxx and got a fab Edina Ronay cashmere coat, black, timeless and brilliant quality. If your TK is rubbish, that's a different matter. I would still rather shop around and get a really good one, I find you replace cheaper coats all the time, a good one lasts for ages.

TrillianSlasher · 15/10/2010 19:32

I am fairy certain that if I go to TK Maxx there will be (all spread around the shop in a mess):
6 nice coats, not in my size
57 not nice coats, in my size
368 not nice coats, not in my size
1 nice coat, in my size, that doesn't actually fit
1 nice coat, in my size, with makeup smeared all over it and a 'dry clean only' tag

But I will have a look tomorrow because I agree that quality and long-lasting should be the way to go for coats.

fairly certain, not fairy certain, I don't have magical fairy powers to tell me what is in the shop Grin

I really like the charcoal Topshop one. I have bought a charcoal winter coat this year and love the colour. Goes with everything and makes a nice change from black.

I don't get TK Maxx. The one near me is like a freaking jumble sale.

TrillianSlasher · 15/10/2010 19:35

I think the trouble with TK Maxx is that for women's clothes there are too many different types of tops.

For men there are t-shirts, shirts, polo shirts, and not much else. So they can just line up the t-shirts and you go to your size and flick through until you see a pattern you like.

I like the first one best
second look cheap and wrinkled
third is nice but belt isn't

perfumedlife · 15/10/2010 19:39

Have you looked online at secretsales.com, or Cocosa? I have found some brilliant bargains on there, in good range of sizes.

The sales change every couple of days so it is worth taking a look most days.

perfumedlife · 15/10/2010 19:40

I agree with you re the womens clothes in TK Maxx. I really have to be in the mood to search and would only go in for a few things, like bedding or coats, towels and so on. Tops and trousers is a free for all. Depressing.

TrillianSlasher · 15/10/2010 19:46

Thanks for the recommendations - I love a bargain. :)

I like the first one best too - although I don't go for black but that's a side issue. I have a navy Monsoon one from a couple of seasons ago and I always get compliments on it.

Agree that the grey one might look crumpled, and I think the sleeves would be intrusive (and probably chilly) on the last one.

On the subject of coats, can I be cheeky and ask for opinions on this? I'd take off the corsage probably but every time I try it on I find it more flattering - it's just I've never envisaged myself getting a coat from NL - whole new departure!

Jellykat · 15/10/2010 21:34

Am surprised about the fabric content in the Jasper Conran-60% Poly! Not particularly warm, but also no weight to make it hang nicely!

Like the shape and detail of second.. I agree try TKMaxx, went last week and just got Autumn/Winter stuff in,at my local.

WWWYou- I like that coat!Lovely shape,V flattering, like the welt pockets too!.. I too went to New Look last week, having poopooed it in the past i was pleasantly surprised, it didn,t have the cheap feel it used to have!Think they've stepped up a gear, cut the label out noone would know Grin

saucetastic · 15/10/2010 22:25

How about this

or

this

Similar to your ones, but maybe warmer.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 15/10/2010 22:37

Thanks Jelly -tbh, that's kind of why I was planning on cutting off the corsage - not that I'm against them per se, but so many of their jackets have them this season it marks it out I feel. Just need a matching scarf or two now!
