the same thing has happened. am very disapointed and waiting on a reply as to if i can get a full refund.
i brought the purple with green lining last year and its gone all bitty and horrible, i did buy one of those fabric shavers but i can;t keep doing that especially as they are quite pricey.
this years on my dd has only worn it tiwce and high friction places like under the arms have bobbled already.
i brough the fleece lined anorak instead for school, much more functional although doesn;t have the smart look i was after.

if you are looking for a duffle this one is cheaper, washable, and so far is wearing well. Like all things on the M&S site it looks a lot better in the flesh.

I think they had blue, pink and green....

Dd has this and it is lovely, had many compliments.

Last year she had the duffle which went very bobbly very quickly and also a fleece lined anorak which she is wearing again this year for nursery as still a good fit.

It looks lovely but, what about the warmth factor?

I bought the duffle last year but it was a disgrace the way it bobbled.

I like the look of the velvet coats but, I think they are too smart!

My DD has the same one that apple linked to, but in the blue with bright spots colour way. She's had loads of compliments on it from playground mums and it is much warmer than I expected. I'd bought her a duffle coat too and wouldn't have bothered if I'd realised how warm the mac would be.
