Is there a good/bad time to go to a designer clearance sale?

Am hoping the combined wisdom of the S&B thread can help! I'm on the mailing list of several companies - like Orla Kiely - and am alerted to clearance sales but never seem to be able to make the time to go along.

If you have been to these sales, what is your experience?

Is there anything decent left after the first day? Is stock decimated in the evenings, particularly in "average" sizes, or is it still worth popping along?

Many thanks for any advice you might have!

I'm on the mailing list for some of these too, but have never actually been.

There is a boden one next week, locally, but it clashes with a hospital appointment I cannot change.

Bumping for the late evening crowd - any advice gratefully received!

I went to an Orla one
We were there early but it wasn't the first day
We only queued until the doors opened
Choice was okay and it wasn't a bun fight

OK so not as bad as an NCT sale, then! Thanks for the advice Eldon

dropped into the Brora clearance event today at about 3pm; it was like the world's most expensive jumble sale, with random piles of £150 jumpers heaped on tables, and everyone hunting for the same three size 12 cropped cardigans that were exactly the same price as they were in the main sale last month. So not exactly clearance...

Orla Kiely ones are quite good though; some genuine extra reductions and one-offs.

Oh wildfig - have to admit that's the one that's calling to me but Westbourne Park is a slight trek from Sarf London.
I don't suppose you happened to see whether they have many scarfs/ stoles/ socks/ gloves/ kids stuff? TIA.

They've probably replenished the stock today but yesterday afternoon, I didn't see any socks, there were a couple of different scarves, a small bucket of wristwarmers, and practically no kids' stuff at all. I ended up leaving with 2 nice big lambswool blankets for £70, and a cropped cardie.

They did have a lot of droopy dresses, many items of size 8 knitwear, the cashmere dressing gowns that appear at every clearance sale, and a handful of men's tanktops, if you want your DH to look like Alexander Armstrong. But who knows - they may be wheeling the rail of 80% off cashmere ponchos in there right now...

Thanks for coming back to me wildfig. 80% off ponchos - haha - I wish! Anyway, stuck at work today and running kids to activities tomorrow so my chances of getting there to see replenished stock = about zero. Maybe easier just to wait for the normal sale...
