Hair ruined by thinning scissors - Anyone else?

Hi,
Ive reecently moved to a new area so I went to a new hairdressers. I often had my hair thinned at my old hairdressers but was always told they didnt use thinning scissors as they wreck your hair and instead they used normal scissors and ran them down the hair to take out some thinckness, however at this new salon they used thinning scissors all over my head and very close to my head so I now have short tufts of hair randomly over my head, Im gutted!
Has anyone else had this and how did you cope?

Thanks x

sounds like a bad stylist rather than the scissors

justbeingmummy · 13/10/2010 16:18

yes your probably right!! I definatley wont be going there again, cant even put my hair half up as I have these tufty bits showing. Guess I just have to wait for it to grow out!

how annoying! the only way you get tufty bits is by going to close to the scalp! i would complain and change salons Hmm

yep - basically let it grow a little more and then have it blunt cut to get rid.

In the meantime, using some kind of serum or smoothing product may help.

thinning scissors are very old hat and the technique of running scissors down hair or snipping into hair is what modern salons do.

toppoptart · 13/10/2010 19:17

oh you have my hugest sympathy my hairdresser did this to me in June and i was devastated it took about 6 weeks and another decent hair cut till it looked better I curled it with my GHDs to disguise the cut for a bit, still now im not loving it but its getting there, im buying some clip in hair extensions for the party season .

Thanks everyone, im totally gutted about it but can kind of hide it if I try so will do that for a couple of months then go back to the trusty old hairdressers and ask them to try and sort it out!! x

I have fine hair but loads of it and my regular hairdresser normally runs scissors down it once it is dry, just to shape any bushy sections. Went to same salon but a different stylist who appeared to take chunks out - perhaps this was thinning scissors. Instead of making hair easier to style, it is harder Angry. I feel my hair just looks quite lank now.

I am wearing it up at present and I will have a blunt cut next time to try and get rid of it. I am loving the Claudia Winkleman cut at present

my hair just laughs at thinning scissors. i have the thickest hair in the world

Molster05 · 08/07/2017 17:23

hello guys Just went to Regis salon... they thinned my hair
( WITHOUT PERMISSION OFF MYSELF AND MY MOM) they just did it and now it is thin ratty and limp... sooooo angry 😡
I soooo do NOT RECOMEND IT AND DO NOTTTT TRY IT! I cried 😭
P.s it takes ages to grow back so don't bother cause there is NO turning back... unfortunately 😡😭😱

I was gifted a hair cut and color, oh my God my regular hairdresser uses scissors only, I had thin short hair but loads of it! New stylist used thinning scissors...absolute disaster, 3 months and hair is finer still and to make matters worse...took a quarter of my fringe with her, I am not vain but at 63 I have to say a nightmare couldn't but it down or up, thinned to the root nearly, stay well away from thinning scissors!

Adamadam13122007 · 23/01/2020 20:36

I like you had fine short hair but loads of it, needed trimming and styling, my old hairdresser always used scissors and a great cut, I was gifted a hair style at another salon, thinning scissors used, at least half my hair lay on the floor, along with a quarter of my fringe that was cut away, for months 6 now it was horrible, it is only coming back, and not fully, also very limp and lank, simply my hair has been destroyed, it will never be the same again, so disappointed!
