Long lasting perfume

ScaryFucker · 12/10/2010 20:27

I sprayed a liberal dose of Coco by Chanel on me at 11 o'clock this morning and I can still smell it Smile

Any other long-lasting fragrances ? I don't buy much perfume so like to know which are the best.

I love Jo Malone (most varieties), but never splashed out on it. Does that last well ?

Jo malone is usually eau de toilette IIRC, not very long lasting

eau de parfum lasts and lasts

Hermes fragrances are lovely - un jardin apres mousson (sp) is a fave

blushingm · 12/10/2010 20:30

i like chanel allure - it lasts for ages and is classy

and Dior Pure Poison too

Jo Malone never lasts on me :( I think Chanel is about the only thing that does tbh. I adored the Bronze Goddess by Estee Lauder this summer, but decided not to splash out as it had worn off by the time I'd walked through the shop.
And why is it always the awful testers that end up lastign forever, meaning you have to go the whole day smelling like old lady???
My absolute fave is Stella, and that does last on me.

APixieInMyTea · 12/10/2010 20:51

My favourite 3 which I always buy and last on me are

Vivienne Westwood Anglomania (Winter daytime perfume)

Michael kors (summer perfume)

Vera Wang, the original one, not that Princess one. (going out evening perfume)

I think different skin types hold different scents better. I tried Chanel a couple of times and it never lasted that long at all.

ScaryFucker · 12/10/2010 21:01

thanks so far, guys

I am liking the Coco

I love Angel and I can smell than on my clothes when I take them out of the washing basket a month week later!

It's not the sort of thing you can wear all the time though.

missmartha · 12/10/2010 21:26

The Guerlain range has some stunning perfumes that smell wonderful and last.

They are classic which is why they are still in the shops, even after 100 years in some cases.

Luca Turin, the perfume guru, gives Mitsouko as his all time favourite.

It does depend on your skin type though.

ScaryFucker · 12/10/2010 22:07

I have no idea what my skin type is

I can still smell Coco though, and it smells nice (to me)

I find the Estee Lauder perfumes go on for ages. Unfortunately Chanel and Jo Malone disappear within the hour.

missmartha · 12/10/2010 22:16

Coco is a lovely perfume. Another class act that lasts is Chanel's No. 19.

vintage4 · 13/10/2010 11:05

very Vintage, Cinnibar by Estee Lauder lasst for ages I can smell it on last Winters coat !.I only wear it from this month to December as it is very spicy and reminds me of so many Christmas`s .Only very small spray needed

Lauriefairycake · 13/10/2010 11:23

Mitsouko, L'Heure Bleue, Vol de Nuit - really high concentration of oil I find.

Opium - though I don't like it much it seems to last forever.

fayeso · 13/10/2010 11:52

Angel no longer smells how it used to beware!!!

It used to be a strong smelling(some would say too strong)pleasant perfume but after reading a few reviews on it , the formualtion has been changed. I read that it now smelt of ice cream cones mixed with cat pee!
Thinking this could not be true I took a trip down to my local Boots and asked for a spray before buying and Oh My....were the reviews true. IT IS VILE.
Cat Pee is exactly how I would describe it.

I wear COCO Mademoiselle which last and is lovely-similar to COCO but a little sweeter. It is my favourite and has been for a long time.

otchayaniye · 13/10/2010 13:14

Tabac Blond by Caron has deeeeeep sillage. Most Carons do last long.

Some Guerlains do, some don't. Mitsoukou probably does the most, but unfortunately this lovely perfume turns to synthetic peach on me.

Serge Lutens also tend to have sillage, as do Nasomattos.

Ormonde Jayne Woman (I must have a full bottle NOW) and Orris Noir also.

If you really want oomph and power, try one of the oud

Jo Malone has next to no sillage - boring colognes (although I like the basil one)

Go to Roja Dove if you're in London (Harrods) or ask for samples online from Editions Frederic Malle or Les Scenteurs.

ScaryFucker · 13/10/2010 14:07

sillage

Harrods

wow, some of you ladies take this very seriously Grin

< impressed >

it's a sickness, ScaryFucker, an expensive sickness.

missmartha · 13/10/2010 14:41

It's a very serious subject. I have known grown women go to pieces when a favourite scent has been discontinued.

Sparkletastic · 13/10/2010 14:46

My all-time fave is Bvlgari Black and that has legs. Jo Malones are lovely as far as they go but very light - Pomegranate Noir has the most staying power. Coco is lush and does last. Angel has its place and I often get compliments when I wear it. Nocturnes by Caron is lovely, somewhat old-fashioned, and lasts for at least 8 hours.

ScaryFucker · 13/10/2010 14:52

I haven't even heard of most of these

Mind you, the perfume counter at Debenhams (round the back where you can do massive sprays without getting frowned at by the painted ladies) is as far as I get Grin

The bible on perfume is Perfume, by Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez.

If you don't want to shell out on it, you could probably get it from your local library.

It's well worth a read and helps you understand the various 'notes' in scents and what might be right for you.

ScaryFucker · 13/10/2010 15:14

oo thanks, sounds interesting

DontMentionChorizo · 13/10/2010 15:33

NARCISO RODRIGUEZ "FOR HER"
GORGEOUS EVEN THE EDT LASTS FOREVAH!!!

DontMentionChorizo · 13/10/2010 15:54

It's worth the capitals.. (sorry Blush)

Agree, Stella McCartney, looks like a miserable cow, makes gorgeous perfume Grin.

ScaryFucker · 13/10/2010 16:37
