Hi, my ds is 8 months old and he is due to get get christened next week, I still need to find a suitable outfit for him, but don't want to get him a traditional romper suit/sailor suit. I'd be grateful for any ideas or pics people may have??

Many Thanks hope you all can help!

this?

auntymandy · 10/09/2005 15:48

mine all wore christening gowns!
But a nice pair of trousers and shirt with maybe a 'tank'top

Janbo25 · 10/09/2005 15:48

thanks for the suggestion, not after anything frilly like that, just something plain simple and smart

My ds2 is being christened next week too . He'll be wearing ds 1 christening out fit(traditional romper suit ). My sister got a lovely cream linen suit from Monsoon for her ds's christening a few weeks ago.

Some lovely stuff \link{http://www.childrenssalon.co.uk/SObabyboy.html\here) but a bit pricey.

here

Janbo25 · 10/09/2005 16:03

do you think a suit would be too much or would it look good?

OP posts:
snafsicle · 10/09/2005 16:06

A 3-piece-suit on an 8-month-old is waaaaay too much, imo.

Janbo25 · 10/09/2005 16:11

would a shirt and trousers be smart enough?? please help I've left it way to late!!

OP posts:
whimsy · 10/09/2005 16:11

Dn's suit was just a cream granddad style jacket and trousers and as it was linen was very light. He just had a vest underneath.

Janbo25 · 10/09/2005 16:13

Have sent you a picture. Im sure shirt and trousers would look lovely. Next have some lovely shirts

Aero · 10/09/2005 16:22

I agree snaf. Ds1 was baptised at around this age and he just wore a smart pair of navy thick cord trousers and a smart shirt. He looked lovely and not at all OTT. But each to their own of course!

CalicoPie · 10/09/2005 16:23

DS wore a lovely set: creamy/beige trousers, cream cotton shirt and a cream knitted tank top. I got it from a specialist shop in Meadowhall, Sheffield - can't find a picture online but similar to this .

Janbo25 · 10/09/2005 16:25

Hi again Janbo

The shop's called Olivers - it's a little independent shop in the Oasis right at the bottom of meadowhall - I don't know if you know it all. The website I linked to is this one which has a stockists page to find somewhere more local to you.

I haven't got a photo scanned in of DS at his christening but his outfit was v. similar to the one in the pic I linked.

HTH

Janbo25 · 10/09/2005 16:49

I'm afraid I detest frilly traditional christening outfits and old man's suits for babies (sorry, just my opinion!) - ds3 wore a pair of linen trousers and a white ribbed jumper (it was a cold month!).

The other 2 were christened in summer and had on smartish dungarees (beige I think) with a white t-shirt underneath.

No shoes either - hate shoes on babies.

Mine were all around 4-5 months.

When ds3 was christened another baby was christened at the same time - he was done up to the nines in a navy and white silk sailor suit complete with hat - I had trouble keeping my face straight!

codsicle · 10/09/2005 17:50

ditto

Janbo25 · 12/09/2005 15:13

where's the best place to buy something appropriate from, i'm off to the trafford centre later?

OP posts:
laughinglil · 12/09/2005 20:16

i'm with you skate don't really like suits on a little baby either!

Furball · 12/09/2005 20:33

What about somethings like This?

Janbo25 · 13/09/2005 08:36

went shopping last night and managed to get him something similar to the ideas you have given, we got some brown trousers from john lewis a white shirt and a brown tank top from next and they go together really well.

Thanks for your advice xx
