Have just been invited to a chic wedding...help!

My DH's boss is getting married in the middle east. It's going to be a very stylish do from all accounts and I have just found out his whole team (and partners) have been invited. I am very excited but also freaking out a bit about what to wear!

It's in less than three months time. It could be quite warm. I have almost lost all my baby weight, almost back to standard size 10. Please help me find something! I have spent ages recently looking for a dress for a friend's wedding and have returned no less than 5 dresses already, for being too short, too shapeless, too boring, too frumpy ... argh. I am average height but have hideous legs above knee so anything too short looks terrible.

Anyway, I have an amazing black satin pencil skirt. Do you think this could be styled for a wedding? I think I have given up on dresses. Have sort of considered this type of thing www.phase-eight.co.uk/fcp/product/warehouse/Blouses/Vintage-Sequin-Top/500673102. Please help!

If its really glam, I would go with a dress.

Have you tried the Project D maxi dresses, am thinking the Casino navy one would look fab on a size 10 ! Not too pricey either. The zebra print dress also looks amazing and ilooks to rather than over the knee. Enjoy

What sort of budget?

You say it is 'chic'...is it fairly formal (i.e sit down meal/speeches) or on a beach/laid back ?

I would generally a dress tbh...but what kind of dress would depend on the kind of wedding IFYSWIM.

I love that dress whitethorn! (Love the all over sequin one too). Would it be too much for a day-time wedding though? Any maybe too hot at full length?

I haven't actually seen invite but formal/black tie I believe. Not sure whether sit down or cocktail wedding however, I guess that will make a difference.

I would love to get a dress, but haven't been able to find one. My waist is disproportionately small to hips, have huge norks and my legs are crap. Makes it difficult. I generally suit waisted, knee-length styles.

Was hoping to keep it under £200 but could go over. With flights and hotel and present to factor in, I should try to keep dress budget down.

Be positive - you sound like a Kelly Brook hourglass. Add some killer heels and the legs will look even better.
I will have a quick look.....

bananapeanutbutter · 11/10/2010 12:21

Actually the project D beaded one could work www.asos.com/Project-D/Project-D-Beaded-Tie-Waist-Dress/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=1329540&cid=11727&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=20&sort=-1&clr=Black ... although I generally don't like cap-sleeves as they emphasise broad shoulders (I think I have every figure "flaw" in the book!) thanks for introducing me to them whitethorn, had never heard of project D until now!

I dont think I would go for the sequins for the daytime but the navy one would work if the material wasnt too heavy, not sure what material it is.

bananapeanutbutter · 11/10/2010 12:23

thanks notyummy ... also thanks for positivity. would love to be kelly brook type hourglass!!

Also did you see the dress Dannii Minogue was wearing on X factor - the prom one. That is from her label (Project D) and I thought was fab for an hourglass figure, didnt see it on the site though, maybe its new stock due shortly

notyummy · 11/10/2010 12:35

slinky. I think KM quite forgiving on curves (am pear shaped and have a similar cut dress from them.)

Agree that prom dress style would be fab on you.

OllieWollieWoo · 11/10/2010 12:39

Lucky you re the wedding - will be lovely. What colouring are you? Not sure if you are a Monsoon type of gal (!) or if you want a more structured dress like the lovely Project D dress but have seen these and they are very nice:

LUUURRVVEE this one.

bananapeanutbutter · 11/10/2010 12:51

oh I had forgotten about karen millen! thanks notyummy. They do seem quite fitted - have been veering away since pregnancy but maybe can start trying them on again.

those two monsoon are lovely ollie but unfortunately that high gathered waist style doesn't suit me! I am blonde and pale (maybe fake tanned!).

Yes will have to make sure that no strict dress requirements, thanks everything. I think it is being held in large western hotel so hopefully will be okay but will def double check.

Just got this for a wedding and it's lovely - much more flattering than it looks in the picture. Also quite a light fabric so prob better for your ME wedding than my UK November one!
