Should I have lash extensions?

I don't even know if that's the right name for them.

I'm 33 & a sahm mummy,I have dark brown hair (usually tied up ontop of my head because some little person is gauranteed to pull it, chew it, spit up on it and/or paint it pink.

I don't wear make up maybe a bit of under eye cover up - I would wear more but wouldn't know where to start.

A friend has offered to do my lashes for me, I have had a skin test & she is due to come over next week.

I'm not sure, I don't want to look like some scary spider women.

Aren't they stupidly expensive?

What about the lash growing stuff you can get now? I think it's £30 in Boots, I think I'm going to put it on my xmas list.

I would try dying your eyelashes first

ladybirdladybirdflyawayhome · 08/10/2010 22:18

My friend has offered to do them for free & free top up's or what ever they are called. I've had a shit year what can I say?
I think she is secretly tryingto tart me up & drag me back up with everyone else.

Has any one had them done? I do tend to rub my eyes quite a bit....

dye them and get them permed instead.

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 08/10/2010 22:24

yy! I want some - £60 for 60 days Shock but now my skin is looking ok (ta Liz Earle), if I had them done I could do the school run makeup free. Get a tint first.

pixierara · 08/10/2010 22:25

they are the best thing I ever did beauty wise,I started off having individually put on for about £70 and took over an hour, now I have them put on in clumps rather than individually and it only costs me £15....get about 3 weeks wear, can go swimming, shower etc etc best bit, it saves me so much time in the morning!

Downside - when they eventually do come out, your own lashes are slightly shorter.....soon grows back though!

Maryqueenofchocs · 09/10/2010 08:29

Lady i've had them on for 2 years, and I'm not a high maintenance sort of gal iykwim. I have them topped up every 2 weeks, take 15mins, and they look brilliant.

Trick is not to go too long, I have 13 d's which are on the short side, start at 10's go up to 17's in my salon. They look natural but thick and luscious. I have not worn mascara for 2 years which is great when you're in a rush.

Also ask your friend to not put a full set on to start with, ask for a smattering of shorter ones and see what you think, you can always build them up as you go on.

They are glued to your natural lash and when your natural lash is ready to fall out so does the extension. Your new lash will be underneath - your lashes are on a 2/3 week cycle of falling out.

If you don't like them, just wait and they will fall out. They do not damage your natural lash or your regrowth.

Try it, you have nothing to lose, and if I had a friend offering it for FREE i bought bite her arm off!Grin

moragbellingham · 09/10/2010 09:23

My friend had them done and they look stunning. Only noticeable if you get up really close and scrutinise, even then you have to ask.
She doesn't wear much makeup and it makes her eyes look so pretty without looking at all fake.
Do it!

HalfTermHero · 09/10/2010 11:10

What is the 'growing stuff' in Boots? I could well be tempted to try it. Does anyone have experience re whether or not it produces any discernible result, please?

nancydrewrocked · 09/10/2010 11:14

I have had them done and they are amazing - I would get them done all the time if I could justify the cost, which is about £100 evry 3mths and £35 every 3 weeks in between where I am.

Go for it.

savoycabbage · 09/10/2010 11:18

My friend is the lowest possible maintanence person in the world and she has them. She doesn't wear any make up and she looks great.

For free you should definitely do it!

Meglet · 09/10/2010 14:02

halfterm Just googled it and it's this stuff.

Seems less hassle than extensions or mascara IMO.

HalfTermHero · 09/10/2010 14:35

Thank you Meglet! It looks good and has fantastic reviews. I will get some. It says it takes 8 weeks to see a marked improvement so lets hope that I have tarantula lashes in time for Christmas!

Meglet · 09/10/2010 15:29

Let us know how you get on. I'll get some in a few weeks.

Meglet · 09/10/2010 16:01

...just looked at all of the reviews on the Boots website and the first ones are crap, then all of a sudden they get really good Hmm. Are Boots being a bit naughty or something?

HalfTermHero · 09/10/2010 16:05

Maybe they have taken a leaf out of Johnny Boden's 'reviews' book, lol Grin.

moragbellingham · 09/10/2010 18:23

Meglet - Wasn't this supposed to be the eagerly awaited lash thing too?
Am dying to try it.

moragbellingham · 09/10/2010 18:24

Sorry, that was sort of meant for HTH as a gentle hint to try out that too!

Bonsoir · 09/10/2010 18:25

I'd love lash extensions. I am going to a party tonight and both dyed my eyelashes dark black and put on long black false eyelashes and they look fab... Could do this look all the time!

HalfTermHero · 09/10/2010 19:22

Thanks, Morag. Now I am faced with a hard choice! The one you linked to is much better value at £7.99. What to do.....should probably be sensible and try the cheaper one first?

moragbellingham · 10/10/2010 20:39

After reading the reviews I'm going to try it using my Boots points (then it's almost a freebie!).

HalfTermHero · 11/10/2010 12:48

I bought the £7.99 one, yesterday and applied last night and this morning. You have to be careful not to put too much on or it dries white and tacky. Obviously no growth yet but my mascara went on well this morning and lashes look as good as they have ever looked so, so far, so good. Today is defo a lash 'good' day. Will report back in a week. Let us know how you go, Morag, please!

moragbellingham · 11/10/2010 15:25

Will report back. I'm aiming for the Eva Longoria effect - on no, wait a minute those lashes are fake, silly meWink
