Over30's and over the knee socks

Can anyone over 30 (other than the models is catalogues) actually get away with wearing over the knee socks? I am lucky enough to have a good pair of pins (my only saving grace!) and love to look of over the knee socks but am a chicken! Mutton dressed as lamb springs to mind! Does anyone over 30 really wear them and if so how?

I love them and have been looking for some - and found them - though didn't buy them!

I was going to wear them with a denim skirt and boots.
My legs are good too and it's a shame not to make the most of them when everything else has gone slightly downhill.
I also don't like getting too warm IYSWIMHmm in tights, however you do have to have a nice tanned and hairfree leg!

no

over knee socks are britney circa 1999

if you are over 10 then really you are too old

i will wear all kind of outlandish dreadfuls but even i draw the line there...

and i am under 30 with good legs as well

bluecardi · 08/10/2010 21:24

They're super - wear over stockings or tights for extra warmth

Holymoly321 · 08/10/2010 22:00

Hmmm... will buy a cheap pair and have a dry run at home methinks! But def over tghts or similar...

Yup. Be very careful, it's a slippery slope. You will be hankering after two pigtails next. And pouting and slamming doors a lot.

I wear them with tights underneath and knee length boots on top when it is really, really cold. But on their own? Not unless Cher in Clueless is your fashion icon.

snoozathon · 09/10/2010 14:50

I think you can def wear them as long as you're not wearing heels, bare legs and a miniskirt! The A/W style of wearing them over thick tights, with boots, looks v cool and insouciant imo. I have a knee-high slouchy grey pair I wear with black boots, black leggings and big knits. They go over the knee, but I usually push them down.

bigTillyMint · 09/10/2010 14:50

Just wrong.

IMHO.

I think they look fabulous with flat shoes (brogues or ballet flats) and skinny cropped wool trousers, plus a feminine blouse on top.

I have two beautiful wook/silk embroidered pairs from Maria La Rosa (but still have to buy the trousers and shoes).

I wore mine rumpled over leather hi tops today. Felt very FAME circa 1982

dexter73 · 09/10/2010 19:34

If mutton dressed as lamb springs to your mind then it is probably worth avoiding that look!

foxinsocks · 09/10/2010 19:36

surely if you are wearing them with trousers then no-one sees them anyway so it doesn't matter?

if you are wearing them with a miniskirt, then I can't quite imagine it (but I have bad legs and am a lot over 30 lol)

vintage4 · 09/10/2010 20:36

i love the look and if i suited them i would wear them.I am 47. Honestly after people watching in Glasgow today anything goes and everybody is too busy being self concious to worry about others .Never saw anything like it and was glad to get home away from it all

moragbellingham · 09/10/2010 21:20

I saw a woman today with over the knee argyle socks, brogues, grey flannel mini skirt and pale blue cardi.
She made me do a double take as she looked so effortlessly chic.

Not quite the look I had in mind but it really worked.

MayorNaze · 11/10/2010 09:42

i think we need links, all these different descriptions are making me Confused

Shhhh · 11/10/2010 14:11

Im not keen on them. If I had the legs to wear them then they still wouldn't be my option..

A mum and dd's school does the school run in a pair of them..Hmm.

Camel dress, camel tights with bows at the top and strappy camel shoes..Hmm. Gives Jordan on a night out a run for her money..Hmm.

Yeah, maybe on a night out but not for eveyday and defo not the school run..BUT all imo.!
