DD1 has wanted to get her ears pierced for a while and now she's in secondary school I think I may finally give in. However I don't want to take her to Claires, where is a good place to go?

bump - it'd make my dd very happy and me a lot happier if I knew it was being done safely.

Through the lobes?

Go to a piercing studio. Ask to look around. Somewhere that uses a needle, not a gun. Check you're happy with the hygiene and standards.

(gasps) Oh my goodness - yes through the lobes, she's 11!

Do you mean one of those places that does all sorts of piercing and tattoos?

Yup. Places where they're trained to pierce ears and spend all day every day piercing. Not a shop selling hair ties and sparkly bandanas.

The lobes thing was a joke. Grin

I agree with piercing studio... do not in any circumstances let anyone near your dd with a piercing gun. They should be banned as they cannot be cleaned properly and can deform ears by impacting soft tissue.

Go to a tattoo/piercing shop.

Brilliant - she'll love it and can regale her Grandparents/school friends with stories of people having their bits pierced. I totally agree about a gun, DD's friend was telling her that when she'd had her ears done at Claires the girl doing it was talking on her mobile the whole time - put us both off.
