Tubeskirt instead of leggings - the answer for the 40+ mum?

I noted a recent thread about whether leggings and a tunic look OK or just daft on the 40+ mum.

I am a 40+ mum and size 14-16, also quite tall. I own tunics and leggings but I'm not sure they look quite right together - short dress and tights on chubby older woman look.

I have just bought a tube skirt. It cost £10, last of the big spenders me, and is a bit clingy to the B-T-M. I think however that it would do nicely with the odd longish tunic. I am also thinking I will try with the leggings under the skirt for added warmth.

I wondered what you think of this as a "style" strategy.

I don't know what i think of it as a style strategy, but as someone who has enormous thighs but loves leggings/boots I think it's a cracking idea!

Also pleased to see I wasn't the only one up at 5 Grin

I would worry long tunic plus long skirt might look a bit 'amish' and mumsy.

Try skinny jeans as an alternative to leggings. They are in all colours, new Look ones are great. I';m same size ish as you and I wear them all the time

Also dont be tempted to buy cheap leggings, get the best and thickest you can you can

sago · 08/10/2010 08:08

I guess it would all depends...would need to see it really to see if it works.
I can´t do leggings either, slim fitting jeans/trousers is the nearest I can get.
I am looking for a pair " like this www.thewhitecompany.com/productdetails.aspx?Id=2002533&ItemNo=DWCDZ&SelectedItem=DWCDZ" but cheaper. Do you think that may work for you too?
Ps. I was also up at 5. And worrying about what to wear with my new tunic...the first I have ever bought!

AbsofCroissant · 08/10/2010 09:15

Where'd you get the tube skirt from? I'm looking for black ones, preferably some kind of jersey material, that goes below the knee

IIf you are wearing a ttube skirt you should wear a short top.
A tunic would look too dumpy.
If you are worried about covering bum, short top plus long cardi?

BitOfFun · 08/10/2010 21:26

I think there is a danger of looking a bit like an ineptly-squeezed sausage à la Apprentice.

Hopefully · 08/10/2010 21:31

wtf is a tube skirt?

Maryqueenofchocs · 08/10/2010 21:32

employmentlawquery don't do it, you could look like one big layered up blob. I am the same proportions and this would look hellish on me.

It's all about balancing your body out, and by wearing this combo you are not balancing you are covering. If you wear a covering up top, wear skinny on the bottom and if you are wearing palazzo trousers you need a skinny top.

imo..Grin

employmentlawquery · 09/10/2010 04:39

But the`skirt I have clings to my lower half, so is more skinny than freeform, and the effect from the side is therefore a bit like leggings. Also the tunic I have tried it with is semi fitted. And I would wear with biker boots or vaguely trendy looking chunky heeled boots, which helps dispel the Amish look.

I got from Matalan but cannot find it to link now.

I got one from New Look and wore out at weekend with ankle boots and a top that just covered my tum - think it's a good look as the stretch in the skirt holds you in.

BadgersArse · 09/10/2010 15:44

i have two
marks ones
£12

BadgersArse · 09/10/2010 15:45

naturally the usual marks warning LSOS applies here

deaddei · 09/10/2010 15:51

I would feel very constrained in a tube skirt- I stride out at a vast pace, and would feel I'd have to take mincy steps.
But then I don't wear dresses or skirts.

BadgersArse · 09/10/2010 15:55

they er stretch

deaddei · 09/10/2010 15:56

But I am like a Colossus down the high street.
Also being 6 feet tall I would like a stick of licorice.

deaddei · 09/10/2010 15:57

I mean be like a stick of licorice Blush

BadgersArse · 09/10/2010 15:57

then if you ar a Colussus I suggest youd stand out in anything?

deaddei · 09/10/2010 17:42

I have just clicked on your link BA and thought you meant long straight skirts.
Now I love short lycra skirts, but think I am past them, even though I have good pins.
