I love the dress she is wearing whilst making fahitas. It is exactly the sort of dress that would suit me. Where does anyone think it is from????

QueenGigantaurofMnet · 07/10/2010 20:30

Somewhere expensive.
I too think it s lovely

duckyfuzz · 07/10/2010 20:36

phase eight do, or did, a similar one, I'll have a look

plus3 · 07/10/2010 20:40

Ohh! There is a phase eight near me!!!

Have recently come to the conclusion that dresses just look ridiculous on me, but I have a evening dress from coast that is perfect (suits my curves) so know there are dresses out there!!!

duckyfuzz · 07/10/2010 20:40

lk bennett and phase eight not quite the same, but not too far off?

plus3 · 07/10/2010 20:44

I do like them, but liked the cross over detail, then band around waist. ?? Necklines too high if large of norks??

purplepeony · 07/10/2010 21:51

i just kept wondering why she wasn't wearing a pinny when frying!

Amanderrr · 08/10/2010 01:28

I loved the dress she was wearing too. It really flattered her figure.

Was it this one do you think? Or this perhaps?

plus3 · 08/10/2010 10:05

Love the 2nd dress! but neither are right...

BridesheadRegardless · 08/10/2010 14:20

Was it the wrap dress from isabel Oliver (can't do links) just been toying with buying that myself...

Didn't see the programme but it looks Nigellaesque and suitable for bosomage such as mine and hers (the only thing I have in commo with Nigella.)

SkippyjonJones · 08/10/2010 14:23

It was lovely wasn't it very 1950s. It reminded me of the sorts of dresses you see her mother wearing in photos.

Havingkittens · 08/10/2010 15:16

I'm fairly sure it was one of these, they custom make them to your measurements and your choice of fabric. They do the most gorgeous 50s "bombshell" dresses inspired or copied from original patterns.

I know this because my wonderful best friend bought me a voucher to get one made for my 40th so I have been eyeing them for quite some time.

SkippyjonJones · 08/10/2010 15:23

oooooh yes those are lovely.

Havingkittens · 08/10/2010 15:31

If that's a bit steep but you like the 50s Bombshell look, these are nice

www.vivienofholloway.com/en/category/Sarong/

or some good ones on here too...

purplepeony · 08/10/2010 15:57

Kew-online.com has some nice dresses- Nigella's was very much off the shoulder so that's the bit you need to go for to get the "look".

CerealOffender · 08/10/2010 16:02

i think it is this but in different material

Havingkittens · 08/10/2010 16:14

That one doesn't have the "shirring" at the sides which cinches in the waist. That was what made me think it was the Whirling Turban dress as they are famous for their shirring! I'm 99% sure it's the first one I posted as all the details are there, the off the shoulder design (which has a specially engineered feature to make it skim the shoulders without actually falling off and showing your bra straps, apparrently) and the sarong style tie side. I just watched it back on iPlayer.

Although it's a good alternative if you were looking for something more affordable.

OK... here we go, I'm going to try one more time to see if any of you believe me!

I have posted links to the dress from different angles in different fabrics. There aren't any made up in black for you to see but you can have them made up in whatever colour or print you choose from their website. They are based in Bali so you need to get measured up properly and have them made to your own measurements. This company are REALLY well known amongst 1950s enthusiasts so I'm not just posting some random site. It is entirely likely that Nigella, being a fan of 1950s fashion herself would have bought a dress from here. You can see from the pictures in the first link the details that you see on Nigella's dress if you watch it back on iPlayer.

Right....I've done what I can. If you don't believe me I give up now!

ps. the other suggestions for cheaper dresses weren't meant to be suggestions of the style of dress requested, I just posted them because the OP said that the style of Nigella's dress was right up her street so I thought she might like to know about those two sites too.

BridesheadRegardless · 08/10/2010 22:03

I can't see those links and I didn't see Nigella's dress BUT I do have a whirlingturban dress.

It's halterneck with a fitted bodice and full skirt with big petticoat, in leopard skin print. I LOVE it!!!

Whirling turban are very 1950's beautifully made and I'd love another. I'd like a wiggle dress. I'm sure Nigella would have heard of them and likely shopped there. I'm sure I've read she wears Vivien of Holloway which are very similiar but not cut quite as well imo.

Jelllie · 08/10/2010 22:40

I haven't seen the dress you are refering to, but I know Nigella shops at The Dispensary in Notting Hill for those gorgeous 50s style wrap dresses I love too! They have a website.

SerendipityAlways · 08/10/2010 22:58

Lovely dresses - anyone ever buy from the Pretty Dress Company?

GeorgiesGirl · 09/10/2010 06:11

I believe you, Havingkittens. :) x

Havingkittens · 09/10/2010 08:42

I have a Vivien of Holloway dress. It's very nice but it's true, they are not cut as well as the WT dresses. I guess that's something to do with being about 1/3 of the price! Sadly, a lot of Vivien's clothes don't fit me right Sad

Sorry, my links don't work as links - I don't seem to know how to do that! I think you'd have to cut and paste them in to the address bar in another window.

MaudOHara · 09/10/2010 11:04

Having kittens I have just rewatched it on iplayer - that is exactly the same dress [covet]

plus3 · 09/10/2010 16:31

thank you havingkittens - the WT page is now in my favourites!
