Grey roots help

I have very dark hair with the odd scattered grey hair but very solid grey patches at the temples. I get my hair coloured (very slightly lighter than my natural colour) to cover the grey. However, given that the grey patches at the temples are really quite solid grey, it only takes a very small amount of growth (a couple of weeks) before the grey roots become very noticable. It is not realistic for me to get it re-coloured every 2 weeks. A couple of suggestions have been made:-

  1. go much lighter so that the contrast with the grey is less noticeable so it takes longer for the grey roots to be a problem. However, I am not sure this would suit my colouring (or very dark eyebrows) and because i dont have much grey in the rest of my hair i am worried that i would very quickly end up with very noticeable dark roots everywhere but the temples.
  1. Change my hair parting to a central parting. I currently part at the side, so the parting is one of the areas where I have a lot of grey. However, the reason i part at the side is that i have cow's licks and my hair either does not sit properly when i part at the centre or very quickly flops back to a side parting.

Help! What can I do? I very rarely see people around with a similar problem so there must be a solution!
