dressing post birth - help!

I had a baby 8 weeks ago. I look awful, nothing fits, im breastfeeding and I have limited funds as I am on maternity leave. I have some jeans which fit but nothing to wear on top. Short of not leaving the house I need to buy some thing to wear to go with the jeans. I normally wear tunics and longer tops as I have massive thighs and hips. Well not massive as I am a size 12 or 10 but the middle of me is my bad section!

I tried on a few things at the weekend but everything either looked maternity, or showed all the wobbly tummy bits I need to hide. All my maternity stuff is now too big - yay for me but it means I just dont fit into any of my clothes.

Im considering these items

breastfeeding top 1

breastfeeding top 2

but it seems like something I would not want to wear after I finish breastfeeding.

Any advice?

ps tunics are lovely but I dont think they are much good for breastfeeding in so my normal style is pretty much out the window.

you need some longer line shirts i'd say? off to look at your links now Smile

nicolamumof3 · 04/10/2010 13:40

like first link not second and would sooner spend £36 on something i could wear for longer?

smugtandemfeeder · 04/10/2010 13:44

yes thats the sort of thing, lots out there atm. and a nice long cardi covers up alot and great for bf too.

I went to Gap and bought some of their nice long/mid length sleeve t-shirts and then a couple of thin vest tops from Zara and then pulled the tshirt up and the vest down so that tummy was covered and not much boob on show. I find Gap stuff good as their tops seem to be quite long and cover the post baby belly. I now have loads so need to vary the wardrobe slightly! I an second the nice long cardi too. Uniqlo is also a good place to try.

you might even find some maternity stuff on sale at Gap if you go to some bigger stores.

I did what eastendmummy did and bought cheap vests to go under normal (non-feeding) tops. You just pull the vest down and lift your top up, that way everything remains covered and you can carry on wearing your tunic tops.

moragbellingham · 04/10/2010 17:22

How about a couple of these with a really nice cardi on top. That way you get to wear the cardi after BF finished. I bought some nice long sleeved ones from there too - maybe they are waiting for colder weather to bring those out!

I do like the first top you linked to but wouldn't dream of spending that much on a BF top.

Anything here?

Wrap dresses?

I noticed in Asda that chunky jumpers are fashinable at the mo. Know Asda isn't known for being the pinnacle of fashion wear, but have just bought myself some of the chunkier knits to cover me after I have bubba.
I have a recollection of having the same problem as you last time. Asda is super cheap too as a quick short-term fix.
Some of their cuts allow for bf.

Thank you for all the advice, I have never posted on this section, just lurked but you have been amazing, so many posts! I have ordered a shed load of clothes from Uniqlo. Never bought anything from there but have heard great things about the quality of the clothes and the prices were excellent so fingers crossed.

Ordered blue and dark grey

I am very tall so trousers are a problem but found lots of long leggings.

Long leggings in dark grey

more long leggings in dark grey

nice navy top

dark grey long tshirt

the nave stuff should go with my jeans and the grey stuff should all mix and match. DH will go mad but I have bought him an outfit as a sweeteneer!
