Help with a dress for a winter wedding

MistyB · 03/10/2010 22:33

I'm going to a wedding in November. The invitation states "party frocks". It's a civil ceremony at 2pm with dinner at 4 and party till midnight.

I've seen this dress but wonder if it's a bit too formal.

I've also seen this in fushia pink but wonder if this is not formal enough.

Any other suggestions?

I like number 1.

Number 2 will look like a sack of spuds IMO.

KristinaM · 04/10/2010 06:17

1 is lovely but not very party like

2 is great if you are very tall and skinny and under 30

We need more info what's your age, shape, style, budget?

minibmw2010 · 04/10/2010 10:13

1 is a lovely dress, but its more of a fancy work dress (in my opinion).

2 is pretty, but no shape to it.

What size are you, what kind of money do you want to spend?

woopsidaisy · 04/10/2010 11:58

I'm wearing number one to three weddings this Winter. It is fabulous! I did try this one on also.It is extremely comfortable. It comes with a matching sash.I really loved it,but it was too high necked for my G cups! If you aren't too big in the bust,I would give it a go. Don't like number two, sorry.

Thank you all - you have confirmed my thoughts / fears!!

I am a size 12, flabby tummy but with the right underwear OK but suit structured / tailored more than floaty. I'm 5'3 and 37.

Budget - DH says just increase your budget to fit expenditure - LOL. In reality around £200.

woopsidaisy have you chosen shoes? and are you wearing a pashmina / coat?

gruber · 04/10/2010 21:38

How would you feel about this? Only as it's reduced & has matching coat for cold/looking smart, it's quite nice but could wear it more than once.

Or perhaps try Kaliko here?

gruber · 04/10/2010 21:40

Meant to say the Artigiano dress was worn by someone same stats as you and it looked really nice, quite structured and hides tummy well!

MistyB · 04/10/2010 22:26

Thanks gruber.

The Artigiano dress is lovely and what a price!! though I'm concerned that the comments say it made the wearers feel pregnant - I definitely do not want anyone to think I've got another bun in the oven!!

Well having seen it on in the flesh it really wasn't that bad, quite tailored and actually very slim fitting- looks smart plus has coat!

BelligerentGhoul · 04/10/2010 22:30
  1. is gorgeous. If you can afford it, please, please buy it.
  2. Is hideous. I'm sorry but it is one of the ugliest dresses I have ever seen.
Unwind · 04/10/2010 22:31

Kaliko dress has my vote

or number 1

BelligerentGhoul · 04/10/2010 22:32

The Kaliko one looks quite frumpy to me.

woopsidaisy · 05/10/2010 06:38

MistyB,I have these. I really don't like pashminas,so will be wearing a nice warm coat.I think the cut of the LK Bennett dress is great.I know other people who have worn the Tina to weddings.I think it is only "officey" in the grey colour.

MummyAnnabella · 05/10/2010 10:46

number 1 a hundred times over. plus those shoes are fab too. i would copy woopsidaisy 100%!!

lancaster · 05/10/2010 11:00

I have this www.coast-stores.com/CANNES-LACE-DRESS/Dresses---view-all/coast/fcp-product/2224699241 dress and have worn it to a wedding recently. Perfect with black opaque tights.

MistyB · 05/10/2010 11:18

I like the coast one!! I wished I lived closer to more shops!!

woopsidaisy Let's hope we are not going to the same wedding!!

woopsidaisy · 05/10/2010 11:47

I tried the Coast one on too,it wasn't that comfortable,a bit scratchy. I think my DH wishes I DIDN'T live so near so many shops,LOL.Thanks MummyAnnabella, that has given me a wee confidence boost! By the way,I'm getting this coat.Well,I'm going to try it on tomorrow, see what material it is etc.

fearoffalling · 05/10/2010 15:05

I like the number 1 tina dress and as I've got it (different colour) as well.

What doesn't show on the photo is how well cut it is and it is very flattering in real life.

I'm also wearing it to a wedding specifying party clothes and I'm not completely convinced it is party but it is very winter wedding so I'm going with it.

Wear some killer shoes and it looks more party imo.

MistyB · 05/10/2010 23:02

Red Magazine has a 20% offer at LK Bennett this month so it might have to be the Tina!!

I like the Monsoon coat too but have just bought a black cape that would look good with it. (shame!)

OP posts:
woopsidaisy · 06/10/2010 08:42

Ooooh,no,I'd love a cape!Unfortunately,with my norks they are a massive no-no.Sad
