Bought this dress for a "Black tie/ lounge suit" school reunion. It starts with a high tea at 3 then sit-down dinner at 8.30 followed by drinks and dancing. Would prefer not to have to carry a change of clothes. Might be chilly so planning to wear nude tights and a stripey pashmina in various shades of rust. Can I wear a different wrap during the day (to get different looks for day and evening)? Any suggestions? Also what shoes? Should they match the dress colour? Or contrast e.g. cream? What style? Please help, wearing a dress for the first time and dont want to make a total fool of myself.

love the dress. Being a blue fiend (fave colour) I'd wear my navy shiny strappy sandals, nice heel height.... they'd be perfect
as I'm probably no help whatsoever, I'll get me coat Grin

Thanks MrsShrek, I love blue too...I have a pair of nice black strappy sandals but then the tights will show. Is that acceptable or a strict no-no?

don't know, tbh

unless you go for something with a nice shaped heel but more of a court, to save the toe/tights thing?

I'll give up on that linky Hmm

this sort of thing?

div22c · 01/10/2010 22:01

cant seem to work the link Mrs Shrek. what shoe colour should it be - given I already have 2 bold colours in the dress and the pashmina?

I love this dress!! Absolutely gorgeous. Tights, esp nude tights, with sandals is a NO. Very very bad. Shoeboots would be good and modern with it or there are loads of patent heels around which generally go with more things than matt colours.
You could wear a pretty cardi or little fitted jacket for the lunch maybe? Pashmina at lunch will drive you mad when you're trying to eat.
Chandelier earrings would be lovely with this dress too.

Hi takingchances, sorry wasnt around yesterday so didnt get a chance to respond. So no tights? This is all quite educational for me! Am a bit concerned I'll be cold, though hopefully it's all indoors.
Shoeboots, cardi sound good...any links or suggestions would be most appreciated, all you stylish ladies.

Hello ladies...off to the shops in a bit to finish off the outfit. Any ideas, most appreciated.

You can totally wear tights just not with sandals (you see the nasty toe part poking through). They are fine with anything with a closed toe though!

div22c · 03/10/2010 19:17

thats a relief :-) these are the shoes i bought finally (in indigo). also bought a long cardi to wear over the dress during the day - cant find the exact one online but something like this. please tell me they are ok?

Hi Div Smile...what colour cardigan and shoes did you get?

minibmw2010 · 04/10/2010 15:46

I have to admit I don't think those shoes match that dress whatsoever ... how about some black patent court shoes (with a high heel)? What style cardi did you buy, could you get a shawl insetad?

div22c · 04/10/2010 22:39

hi guys...sorry wasnt logged in earlier...got a blue cardi with waterfall hem a couple of shades ligher than the dress. have a nice rust coloured shawl for the evening...was trying to create 2 different looks for day and evening without carrying a full set of clothes. shoes...will black do? i have some very high heel black sandals, just need to organise some sandal tights then
