I am thinking about thinking about having it done.

Now.

I am worried my labs are too erm lets say ruched for any waxer to want to take on!! I can't imagine how on earth they would get everything!!

I also have no idea where to go to get this done, if i ever got the courage. My nearest city is Plymouth if anyone has any recommendations.

My best mate, has this done and she is the biggest wuss ever, yet i conclude that my pain threshold must be lower than hers, as i was really shocked she went for it!!

So any tales to tell me?

Go to someone who is properly trained and be prepared to pay for it.

Don't worry about your bits, they will have seen them all.
Do expect to find yourself in new and interesting positions.
Take 2 ibuprofen 45minutes before you're due on the table.
Wear loose fitting pants and a skirt for your appointment.

They've seen hundreds/thousands of fanjos so don't give that a second thought.

It will hurt, but it just hurts when they are ripping, then you take some breaths!

I would do it, if you want to!

FakePlasticTrees · 01/10/2010 18:07

As others have said, they've seen it all before, don't worry!

Go for hot wax, expect to pay about £20-£30.

Take a couple of paracetamol before you go in, seems to help.

Oh, and buying chocolate cake on teh way home definately makes it all better!

bellavita · 01/10/2010 18:17

Paracetamol definitely before you go.

When I had mine done, I wore paper pants so at least half my fanjo was covered! Oh yes, I second the loose fitting clothing too.

My deep breathing starts before I get on the table Blush as my pain threshold is way low.

bellavita · 01/10/2010 18:18

Oh and I would trim before you go. The longer the hair, the more it hurts..

nancydrewrocked · 01/10/2010 18:21

First things first different salons call different "styles" different names so be clear about what you want and let them tell you the name of what you are after.

For example at my salon a Brazillian is quite tame it is a neat strip about 4/5cm wide that runs front and underneath so nothing much of the labia just tops of legs and sides of front.

A Hollywood is everything off (although in some salons this is where a neat strip 2/3cm is left)

And a californian is everything off bar a 2/3cm strip at the front.

Secondly they have seen it all and don't care.

Thirdly don't wax before a hot date or horse riding (I have made both these mistakes)

Paracetamol does help.

The first time will be the worst.

beccas · 01/10/2010 18:24

Trim evenly, take drugs, pull your skin taut and ask waxer to advise which way to pull skin taut. Do not be embarrassed. The more you do it the less it hurts

bellavita · 01/10/2010 18:25

The salon I used - a brazillian meant a tiny little strip at the front and all off underneath as well.

piratecat · 01/10/2010 18:25

I so want to make the right decision here, i know i will be the screamer lol!

those pants they give you though, do they not get in the way? Yet being totally bare, well i can only imagine if you are stretching your labia that the waxer gets a right view. I am not prudish, far far from it just a bit conscious of appearence since childbirth. it aint pretty lol.

what about aftercare? my mate (doesn't live in same county) gets given stuff to make the skin soft which helps stop inflammation/ingrowing entities.

The first time I was persuaded the therapist to have it all off she was getting on with it and I mentioned I'd already had a child.

To which she glanced at my freshly waxed fanjo and said "yes dear I can see that !)

As has been said they've seen it all....

bellavita · 01/10/2010 18:51

No, the pants do not get in the way as you pull them to one side with one hand, whilst stretching the skin with the other - so the waxing person can get the strip off taut, tight skin. I put savlon on mine.

psychomum5 · 01/10/2010 18:56

have you ever been waxed before?? not whole lot off I mean, but have you ever even just had a bikini wax??

I went for what my salon called a 'landing stip' for my very first time, and never ever EVER again.

not sure if was just me, or bad waxing, but I bled out of every teeny hole:(

not helped by the fact that I was going on hols that day, and the only loose fitting item not packed were lose fitting WHITE linen capri pants.

piratecat · 01/10/2010 19:11

i have waxed my own bikini line once, it hurt.
I had my legs waxed and it was agony, and i thought omg what is wrong with me, but a woman i know said she'd gone to this particular therapist and had thought her rubbish, and that it had not ever hurt as much asit had with her.

They will probably ask you to spend a fortune invest in some aftercare products they sell in store. I found Aloe Vera gel worked for me.
