Anyone got this coat? www.landsend.co.uk/pp/Lightweight-Down-Coat~9499_48.html?bcc=y&CM_MERCH=IDX_00002__0000000022&origin=index New to the range and very like the North Face Metropolis or Patagonia Down With it Parka but cheaper :)

Wondering if anyone's tried it before I buy?

No but it looks fabulous. DD1 got a Land's End parka style jacket for herself last year with fur around the hood and I was very impressed with it when I borrowed it. It was much cheaper than North Face stuff; better value all round I thought and looked lovely. Definitely kept the weather out and washed perfectly. Looked a bit like this style only in navy and had a more matte appearance. I like Lands End quality in general -- it's a well-regarded US brand.

I love coats with an interior security pocket, and the concealed fleecy cuffs, and you won't boil to death in the lightweight down, or look like the Michelin Woman.

want to order the chevron one with fur

I have just ordered the down gilet in spice brown - a fraction of the cost of the North Face ones that I was looking at in Cambridge today. Fingers crossed I will like...

Really tempted! Looks more feminine than most of those duvet coats and not too Michelin Man.... the chevron fur one is lovely too, BA.

i got the chalet down coat from there l y and it is super-warm and light. not glam though

rainrainrainsun · 30/09/2010 22:26

Hmm--- Ive tried both and The Northface ones are head and shoulders above Landsend in both warm and durability.
I know they are cheaper but sometimes its worth shelling out. Sorry Blush

WifeofSportacus · 30/09/2010 22:33

Oh...bums, really? Both 600 fill, so thought would be similar in warmth at least. What about styling? Is Land's End much more frumpy?

The Northface not exactly high fashion either but I found the construction, outer shell etc much more robust and durable.

I bought a Landsend which was fine for schoolrun etc if that is what you need.

If you want something that will really keep out rain/wind/snow for dogwalking/winterwalks etc would go for Northface .

DD1's Landsend one was fine for the northern midwest US snowbelt city where she's at university -- kept her warm even out at night.
