dodgy/sticky zip tips

Have a fab dress with a sticky zip. Any top tips for making it smooooth? am terrified I yank it (my normal technique) and wreck it...
If I do that, are there any miracle cures?

Use a lead/graphite pecil -run it up and down the zip like you're colouring it in. It should then move.

dumb question, but do you mean the closed zip, and all of it?
dress is white, so am scared but will give it a bash! thanks.

you can do the same with a candle - rub it down the zip (I usually do it when the zip is open and rub it along the 'teeth') and the wax even though you can't see it helps the zip work properly
