Skirt shapes and body shapes ... tell me I'm not alone!

Kew delivery today contained this skirt. It looks good on from the front but side profile I'm a disaster in it. My tummy sticks out in one direction and my bum in the other (and my bum doesn't usually stick out ). Boden's denim mini was the same. So, it's me and not the skirs - right?!

I'm 5'7", a size 8-10 and slim all over except for my tummy which, after 4 children, does protrude ever so slightly

I really want a casual skirt for winter to wear with boots and jeans. Please, can someone tell me I'm not alone and which style should I go for?

I think what you need is a skirt with no waistband, no front pockets and either an A line shape or a tulip shape. The White Stuff have a few nice shapes in and shortish, just above the knee. My bum has always stuck out but now my tummy does too, so A line is the shape for maximum 'skimming'!

if your tummy sticks out a fly fronted skirt will make this much more exagerated.
Side zips are better.
And a straight skirt in a firm fabric will increase the appearance of any shape/curves because the fabric sits on top rather than softening around your sahpe - IYSWIM

You can go for denim or cord but you need a flat front and something that widens slightly towards the hem stops you looking round at the top.

That is why Boden style A-lines are popular - they are very flattering. Although I don't actually buy Boden. something like this . you will find loads on the High Street.

Thanks ladies ... have been dwelling on this ever since I posted and was wondering about a-line. Great advice and good tips. I shall go-a-hunting once the children are in bed!

Ooh I'm loving that skirt! May get one myself. I'm a fan of purple tights actually, not sure if that's your thing. Those may work with black boots better. What colour skirt will you get, the navy one?

If so, maybe navy tights and brown boots - quite classic.

The moleskin skirt may be a good bet too. The only thing with the cord one is that it is not lined and so may ride up and cling to tights.

Good point about the lining MyBoys - I've already got a Boden skirt that does just that and have given up wearing it. Am not going to wait to exchange the straight skirt but might order both the a-line cord & moleskin numbers tonight and see what they're like. Moleskin looks lovely. I love purple too but would go for the Ink in the cord (have it upstairs in the other skirt and it's a nice colour) and the blue in the Moleskin. Now I need tops.

Haven't ordered from Kew before and although I'm sending 3 tops back and the two skirts (different sizes), I'm really impressed with quality etc.

Are you sure your tummy really sticks out that much? Does it matter? You've had four children!

If you are 5'7 and an 8-10 then you must be fabulous. It is not against the law to have an ever so slightly protruding tummy you know .

If you're an apple shape be wary of a lines - I think they suit pears much more.

They look hideous on me and I am a definite apple albeit a small one.

Agree side zips and sturdy fabric for tummy control.

And get yourself some 'hold you in knickers'

Tracey what shapes would you wear then? Would you go for a straight cut with a side zip?
