How long does perfume last on you?

I've just bought some Jo Malone perfume, but I'm disappointed that it hardly lasts any time at all on me. I once heard that although you can't smell the perfume you've put on, other people can, it's just that your nose has got accustomed to it - is there any truth in that, or have I just wasted £50?

is it perfume or eau de toilette?

I cannot smell it on myself after about 1 hr, I thought that was normal. (I wear Chanel, either no5 or Mademoiselle).

But I can smell it on my clothes the following day.

Love to hear what others think.

knowing by estee lauder lasts about three days

if I want a perfume to last - I use the body lotion as it seems to last much longer

Isn't cologne quite watered down? Parfum is strong but very very expensive, then eau de parfum is the next strongest I think and still quite £££ then eau de toilette is weaker and isn't cologne weaker still? Do Jo Malone do different strengths? I know Chanel usually offer eau de parfum and eau de toilette in most of their fragrances and I always get eau de parfum if available as it lasts so much longer.

I like to be able to smell my own perfume but there are very few that are strong enough - Angel I can normally smell for a long time, ditto Coco - but most others you get used to and can't smell after a while I have found.

Ooooh I love Knowing - but my mum wears it so I feel like it's 'hers' IYSWIM. Is lovely though.

Yes, I find all Estee Lauder perfumes last for ever, but have been guilty of overdosing on Youth Dew and seeming people reel back in shock.
I love Jo Malone's perfume, but she only seem to do cologne. What's the point of cologne if it doesn't last long - a serious question, as Jo Malone is very expensive.

I don't use the perfumes - just the body lotions, no need to layer Smile and they are usualy much cheaper than the perfume
