I am pathetic i know but this has reduced me to tears. And apologies for the name change.

I am singing at a wedding on Saturday and i STILL haven;t found a dress. My budget is small - £30 tops. I am v fussy and i hate looking at myself.

I have been to every shop i can get to and the ones i have liked have either looked ridiculous or been ones that were more wedding guest than wedding singer.

I need to be able to wear it again, i don't like ones that cling, i have to look AND feel amazing and i have to be able to move freely in it. Must not be floor length and i must be able to wear tights.

I am a 6/8 on the boob area going to an 8/10 round hips then 8 ish on the bottom.

I usually shop in New Look / River Island.

You need to go to some good quality charity shops/dress agencies.

FlutterbyPurpleToffee · 29/09/2010 20:23

The problem is that there are no good quality ones locally or i would have started there.

On Saturday? Hmmm.

House of Fraser have loads of dresses in their sale - here, then select "narrow by price" for £10- £20 dresses. They do next day delivery but you will need to be VERY quick!

You could possibly order several and then return the ones you don't like?

Good luck.

youngblowfish · 29/09/2010 20:37

Sale dressed from ASOS, hundreds to choose from and all under £30.

faustina · 29/09/2010 20:38

how about ASOS? they have 20% off dresses at the mo - you would have to pay for next day delivery but they have a massive choice

SkippyjonJones · 29/09/2010 20:40

With your measurements you could wear a bin bag and look amazing Smile Have you tried white stuff ?

thatsnotmymonkey · 29/09/2010 20:45

I am sort of the same shape size as you, and I dig on one shoulder dresses

cheap and cheerful

I really don't look good. And it's not just me saying it.

I have odd proportions. I have no bust even with a mega bra on so low cut tops are out. I have a long upper body but short legs.

Although i hadn't given the bin bag option a thought ;)

I need to try on because of my fussyness.

Not tried HoF - had completely forgotten about it despite the fact i used to work there Hmm

you could get some of those chicken fillet boob things you put in your bra, that might help Grin

FlutterbyPurpleToffee · 29/09/2010 20:54

sorry x posted.

I don't have the underwear for a 1 shoulder or halter.

And need a physical place to go try on.

I am doomed aren't i?

:dusts off the black trousers:

SkippyjonJones · 29/09/2010 20:55

How does tether do that, she is so fast and they always all meet the requirements. Smile

thatsnotmymonkey · 29/09/2010 20:57

do you have an old bra you can cut the strap off for the one shouldered look?

Wear heels for your short legs.

Sounds to me like you are probably beautiful and just need some help believing that. Whatever you do- DO NOT WEAR the black trousers....Please!!

FlutterbyPurpleToffee · 29/09/2010 20:59

i have 3 bras a black a purple and a white Hmm

HAVE to be able to wear tights. Got a few pairs of heel shoes.

I am just not used to wearing dresses, i live in jeans, t shirt and flat shoes, i even wear jeans to go out in although i were heels occasionally - if i am not walking to and from wherever it is.

And don't usually wear anything patterned.

SkippyjonJones · 29/09/2010 21:03

Is there an H and M near you they often have amazing dresses that are really inexpensive.

thatsnotmymonkey · 29/09/2010 21:05

That dress it in budget and lush, purple opaque tights, black mary jane shoes, black bra with the home made alterations and you will look the business!

Go to a big tesocs tomorrow and TRY OT ON!

FlutterbyPurpleToffee · 29/09/2010 21:08

I went in yesterday but nothing caught my eye. It was the end of the day though and i was tired.

Struggling with looking at the online ones with the perfect models who probably don't even know what a stretchmark is.

littledawley · 29/09/2010 21:10

could you just wear something like this? It's essentially just a t-shirt dress but if you are just singing and not attending the wedding then I think it is spot on. Think concert singer in a floor length black dress...
You would feel covered up and comfy but could spend the rest of your budget on a fab necklace that would lift it.

thatsnotmymonkey · 29/09/2010 21:11

littledawley LOVE that!

Big belt would be good slung low and lots of bangles on one wrist.

FlutterbyPurpleToffee · 29/09/2010 21:13

i tried that on yesterday LD!

It's loooong (i'm 5'3") and it clings just where i need to hide. next size up is too big on top.

thatsnotmymonkey · 29/09/2010 21:15

CONTROL underwear, Sainsburys have cheap and good stuff.

Are you a wedding guest?

FlutterbyPurpleToffee · 29/09/2010 21:18

No. I don't even know them. Relative of DHs friend. But its in a castle and we hope to get more gigs out of it.
