Boden patent boots

Has anyone bought the patent knee boots that Boden have at the moment? Do they look like wellies??? I quite like the black but interested in any views... I am tempted by the reviews on the site which suggest they are reasonably wide in the calf, can anyone vouch for that???

thanks

there was a thread recently about them, someone called them a prostitutes wellies which makes me giggle every time they get mentioned. I did quite like them but too expensive for me.

OooohWhatIfItHurts · 29/09/2010 14:10

I was the one who coined the phrase "prostitute's wellingtons" ! DH laughed a lot and did a lot of Hmm when he saw them.

Flighttattendant · 29/09/2010 14:11

Oh I ordered these in the pink Blush before cancelling the order in utter dismay at my own lack of decorum.

They are lovely though..

Flighttattendant · 29/09/2010 14:11

Plus it was a fantasy order as they are so £££

emsyj · 29/09/2010 16:50

It's 20% off til midnight tonight so I was going to order them but am a bit concerned at the assessment that they are hooker wellies!!!!!!!!!!! Shock

LowLevelWhiingeing · 29/09/2010 16:51

I haven't seen these boots, but surely Hooker's Wellies is never a good look? Shock

emsyj · 29/09/2010 16:54

Well obviously I don't think they look like hooker wellies... but it's hard to imagine what they're like in real life as the boden site photos are often not remotely accurate or representative...

go on order them with the todays discount, or you will always think what if they were my perfect boots......report back and let me know.

Whoamireally · 29/09/2010 21:00

I have seen them 'in the flesh' and the blue ones are lovely it's the pink ones that are prossie's wellies Grin

emsyj · 29/09/2010 21:30

Hmmmmm I am still not convinced.... and now I am dithering so much I am going to miss the discount! Oh will get my purse... let's give it a shot.

My blue ones arrived yesterday. Tried them on but they just look all wrong. Very baggy around the ankle and not sitting right. Have sent them back.

daisylonglegs · 30/09/2010 03:11

I bought the pink ones and they were utterly vile! The most appauling colour and the leather was crinkled and not very good quality...however, I was soooo tempted by the discount today and have ordered them in the navy...(I would never ever do black patent) and the grey look like dishwater...there is something about patent that is very appealing but it has to be the right boot or bag otherwise it can look very tacky and the 'streetwalker' look is definately not stylish (hmm...)lol. I will have a look at the navy ones and review them but I think this seasons Boden has been seriously dissapointing...clothes and boots...no doubt the HUGE ad campaign is being paid for.thinner material and already going into discount and we are only at the very beginning of Autumn...AVOID THE PINK AT ALL COSTS! Blue can look very chic, black can easily look tacky and as for grey..(smile) who needs more grey when winters on the way?!

Flighttattendant · 30/09/2010 07:32

Yes when I ordered it was the preview which was 20% off

even so it was too much. And what would they go with!
the skirt I ordered at the same time was really thin, not nice quality at all, and so were the tops.

It all went back. Really sad.

vintage4 · 30/09/2010 12:39

i bought a pair of brand new mini Boden patent boots for me size 4 off Ebay in a purple colour. They do look a bit like wellies don`t think prostitute thpugh. They look lovely with brighter colours and Grey were £30 so bargain compared to adult ones

emsyj · 30/09/2010 18:01

Oh dear. It seems likely that I am going to be disappointed. How much did it cost to send them back?? I am anticipating huge postal costs!

one tip for returns ( which with boots can be expensive) google Boden discount voucher and you will get a discount with usually free returns. I never ever pay full price at Boden. I cancelled some orders but have been emailed to say they are on the way anyway...this means that by the end of the week, I will have 3 pairs of Boots ( 2 that I cancelled) and the navy ones from the discount offer... The mini Boden ones are fab but a bit short on me but their kidz plimsolls are amazing...cheaper than the adult ones and in great colours. This season their clothes have been absurdly expensive with tunics and dresses going well near the £100 mark - fine if you can afford it but the quality has really not been there. I also keep seeing people wearing Boden which is a bit offputting as I like clothes that are unusual and because of all the advertising, they are becoming just like any high street shop......I have been 'Bodening' since they started but am sure that there are better online boutiques and shops that have more unusual and well-made clothes. Mini Boden are the best though(smile)
nb...cannot seem to get the hang of the smileyface lol!

miracled · 01/10/2010 14:25

Glad to hear the pink ones are vile as I have been coveting them but could never justify the cost Smile

daisylonglegs · 01/10/2010 22:34

end of story........well, now I have tried them all ( apart from the grey which I thought far too dull to try) The quality of the leather is APPAULING. The Blue and black are both as awful as the dreaded pink. Better to buy boots costing this much in a shop where one can try them on and have a real look at the leather, seaming etc. These boots would be expensive at £50. They look like PLASTIC!

Flighttattendant · 02/10/2010 12:52

Daisy, re smiley face it is the square brackets (next to the 'P' on your keyboard?) Smile

Thanks for the update. I'm really disappointed in Boden this season. It seems to have cut a lot of corners for some reason.

emsyj · 05/10/2010 12:42

OK, they have arrived. I think they're quite nice actually (and the leather is nice IMO). The zips are quite stiff which is a concern, but will rub some pencil lead on them if I decide to keep them.

Can see what people mean with the comments about the ankles being too baggy, they could do with being slimmer but then that might make my legs look like golden drummers??

I need to try them on properly with dress/tights/leggings type outfits, but am delighted to note that they DO ZIP UP!!!! I have never ever managed to get long boots that fit my chunky calves before, so I am quite excited by this!

daisylonglegs · 06/10/2010 00:06

Mmmm, I sent the last pair of the patent ones back today - just too expensive, especially as I have managed to find 5 pairs of leather winter boots ( russell& bromley) in my loft..however, now I am coveting the Boden chunky leather boots in brown and...they have sold out! Aghhh!... I am going to sell all these on ebay and buy some sheepskin ones for a change lol{smile} Thanks flightattendant!
