First Wellies

DS has only just started walking (18months). he mainly crawls and bum shuffles interspersed with some walking if he is feeling brave although he does lots of walking holding my hand. Trouble is he loves being outside and his shoes are getting trashed! I'm presuming I can't put him in wellies yet? Have seen some water resistant startrite boots but they are ££. Don't mind paying the money if they'll last but think it's unlikely especially as he still crawls so is likely to wear through the toes!
Are there any other alternatives?

Mine wore wellies outside from that age. Admittedly they began with the wellies from DHs old Paddington bear. He won't be out in them for long.

Those muddy puddles ones look great but he is already a size 5 so I don't think they'll be a goer. (Have bookmarked them for future late walking children!)
I think I might go for wellies am just reluctant to put him in anything that will make him less likely to walk!

Well went to have his feet measured and after getting over the shame (guilt) that his feet are a size bigger than his shoes, bought him a pair of wellies because the shop didn't have any shoes suitable in his size. So now we have wellies and no shoes!
Must add that he is managing to walk quite well in them
As he has been measured properly I presume I can buy some shoes online or should they still be fitted by the shop?
