You see people at London theatres in all sorts of outfits so anything goes really - but mainly it's just casual or what they've worn to work. I usually wear reasonably nice jeans or trousers and tunic. Sometimes a dress/ boots. Occasionally you do see people 'dressed up' but that's the minority - except, perhaps, at Covent Garden - and can look a bit touristy (not that being a tourist is a crime ...). I'd wear something you feel good in, but not too formal.

it will be quite hot inside the threatre, i wear light comfy clothes with a layer i can take off - are out for dinner that night as well?, that may help determine what to wear

Yup, increasingly it's quite casual. I'd say if you do wear jeans, make an effort to wear nice shoes and a smart top/jacket.

Yes I am always surprised how casual most people are at the theatre, even when DH took me to the royal opera house a lot of people were in jeans and trainers.

Thank you all! Yes we're going out for an early dinner beforehand but nothing fancy, Covent Garden Grill I think it's called.
