Laser hair removal update... Custardo??

So I've been for my consultation and patch test. Patch test really stings but apparently the actual laser feels worse. It will take approx 6 treatments and £250 to make my granny McPhee chin hair free. Worst bit is I can't wax or pluck the hairs ever again. Have just tried facial hair removal cream which left me with sore chin and as many whiskers as before. Will have to resort to shaving in between treatments I think (eurgh)
So in summary I think it will be painful, expensive and annoying but am going ahead anyway in the hope it will be worth it.

I've been doing treatments for 2 years now - have done face, underarms, bikini line and am now in the process of finishing my legs. It's absolutely fantastic and worth every penny.

I tried IPL first with mixed results - found it hurts less, but is nowhere near as effective as laser. As for the pain, I found it much easier to bear than waxing.

In between appointments, I was told to shave if necessary and it was absolutely fine. It terrified me at first (especially in my chin!) and I had always waxed my legs and bikini, but honestly it worked out great.

Where do you go for laser? I've had IPL in my bikini and worked fantastically. The underarms didn't work so well, as after 9 sessions the hair is still growing, very finely but growing. Are there any sites I can read more about laser?

JustAnother - I had mine done here in Sydney, Australia but the machine this clinic uses seems to be available in the UK. I hope so anyway, because we're moving back home this year and I need to finish my legs!

Anyway, it's called "candela gentlelase" and whenever it zaps the skin it also releases this cooling thing which is meant to reduce pain.

IPL worked OK for me, but was too mild/slow for certain areas. No idea why this was the case, but most of my friends had similar experiences so I can only imagine the systems are different.

I seem to remember someone saying laser should be administered by licensed medical staff as it's pretty strong stuff, so I have mine done in a cosmetic surgery clinic.

I found wwwbodylaser.co.uk by googling but the woman who waxes my eyebrows had recommended the same company so I didn't feel I was going in blind. Am really hoping it won't hurt too much, will be amazing to get it sorted out. Was starting to consider legs etc but would cost a fortune

Will shaving make the downy blond hairs come back thicker? I must admit I am dreading the prospect of throwing away the tweezers and seeing just how many of the little blighters I actually have.

I think it is £250ish for each small body part. She said a whole leg takes 1 1/2 hours each session so will be 3 times as much I guess. I look HIDEOUS with my spikey beard regrowth this week though so it had better be worth it. Counting down til next friday's treatment.

Having IPL at the moment on face. Hated the idea of shaving...but have found a little product called a facial buffer that I use in between treatments instead. It is a small plastic thing with a sandpaper like surface! So you buff the stubble with that (so doesn't pull hair out) . Is pretty good and preferable to shaving imo.

I'd recommend to keep trying with the cream. The first time I used it I got much the same result as you, but I tried it again and it's what I use all the time now (too skint for lazer hair removal unfortunately!).

The one I've works the best is Nair "All hair types remover" which Poundstretcher do for £1.
(You can also get the same stuff in Boots, but it says "Facial hair brush on" in big letters instead of simply "all hair types" and it's about £7)

Your skin will take a bit of time to get used to it. The trick is to work out how long you need to leave in on your face to actually dissolve the hair without giving yourself chemical burn (nice ).

It is actually doable though, honest! For me it takes 10 minutes (although I think if I'd put it on for 10 minutes when I started using it, it probably would have given me burns). I very rarely get any red marking now.

I'd be more mortified by a shaving cut than a red mark I think.
