A question about tunics and outwear for all you fashionistas

When you wear a tunic with jeans/leggings and boots (yep, I'm obsessed with getting it 'right') what do you wear on top? A too-short jacket isn't going to look right. So is it a long cardigan - if so what style and should it be as long as the tunic or does it matter if it's a couple of inches shorter; or is an above-the-knee coat? I'm thinking cardigan for autumnal or cool winter days in the car but coat for wet, cold, windy days.

Thanks!

I wear long cardigans, lower thigh to below knee or a coat depending on weather.

ebojones · 25/09/2010 18:00

I wear boyfriend cardigans over tunics at this time of the year. Have just ordered the Boden boyfriend cardigan and hope this will work well Hmm
In winter, I wear my winter coat which hits my knee

Clary · 25/09/2010 18:02

I would wear nowt if warm enough (I mean nowt over the tunic obv!)

Or if not warm, then my Boden warm-lined mac yummy. Put it on for the first time last night.

Clary · 25/09/2010 18:02

Not that I am a fashionista Grin

dingdong3 · 25/09/2010 20:23

I have a boxy cropped jacket which seems to work over longer tops and leggings/skinnys and is good in this in-between weather.

Millie1 · 25/09/2010 20:52

Okay, so just about what I thought then.

Right, next up. I've got 2 longer length cardigans. One is from Boden around 2 years ago, oatmeal in colour, style pretty much similar to this and another grey waterfall cardigan which I've really gone off as it's too flappy and dressy rather than warm and cosy. Oh, and I also have a grey Boden round-neck boyfriend cardy from their spring/summer catalogue which I have worn all summer. So I think I would quite like another chunky-knit cardigan but not too coat-like. I guess grey is a good allround colour (my tunics are a dark camel colour, a purple-y blue and a stripey number with purples/greys etc.

What's the verdict on these please:

No1 is too coat-like

No2

No3 Not sure about shape or alpaca wool.

No4 Stunning but waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too ££££££££££.

No 5 Phase 8 and not bad.

I could go on looking at websites all evening but I won't! You get the drift - the Brora cardigan is a beauty but out of the question unless DH has bought a lottery ticket and it comes up trumps - which he hasn't! Maybe grey is the wrong colour - too dull? Still, it would go with everything.

As always, opinions appreciated Smile

Whatever cardi goes best tbh, most of my cardis are long but I don't think it matters.

I like the phase eight one best.

I bought this (obv on a diff budget to you!!) the other day and I love the colour, very versatile, in real life is a lighter brown.

Navy is a good colour as well.

dexter73 · 25/09/2010 21:01

How about Uniqlo? Their merino/cashmere knits are really lovely.

dingdong3 · 25/09/2010 21:06

I LURRRRVE the first Pure one....have had my eye on it but I also faint at the price of it too! I'm sure there are discount codes about though..

colette · 25/09/2010 21:08

Maize,

I am wearing a long grey matalan cardigan now- like the one you've linked to as well . I like the shape of no 3 Millie 1 best , also phase 8 one looks lovely.

Millie1 · 25/09/2010 21:12

Oh lots of replies - great, thanks! Like both the Matalan cardian and the Uniglo version. Dingdong - it's mad, isn't it but someone must buy them Shock. Am off to spend some more time browsing Matalan and Uniglo now - have read many positive comments on here re Uniglo knitwear, maybe now's the time to try it

No.3, I'd spotted it myself and very tempted, it's a lovely shape and alpaca meant to be warmer than cashmere even. Also had bookmarked the Phase 8 one, the blue is a lovely colour which I had my eye on. Both would look lovely with your tunics. I didn't fancy any of the uniqlo ones.

Millie1 · 25/09/2010 22:29

Thanks AQ - I didn't know that about Alpaca - you learn something new every day! Have had a closer look at the Wrap cardy - it's quite quirky and detailed really. Hmmmm.

I have the navy Phase Eight cardy and it is very nice (got it when it had 25% off) but very similar to the Uniqlo one so that's why I linked to it as it is half the price. It is actually a much darker navy than in the JL photo.

Millie1 · 25/09/2010 22:43

Now 25% off would be nice ....

I like the range of colours with the wrap one but it is £££ with no discount around. Dexter, is the phase 8 one v.clingy at the bottom with the ribbed bit?

dexter73 · 25/09/2010 22:52

It is quite straight at the bottom but I don't wear it done up so it doesn't cling.

accessorizequeen · 25/09/2010 23:04

Ooh, thanks Dexter, I have lots of blue tops so tempted by a navy cardie as I am giving up purple!
