PLEASE help me find a good quality, won't shrink in the wash, long sleeved plain black top!

I'm sure it can't be that hard to find, but I have been searching in vain for the last 2 or 3 winters!

I've tried New Look - it shrank in the wash

Primark - ditto.

DPs - faded within a few washes and went baggy.

Tesco - rubbish.

H&M - even the bigger sizes seemed too clingy (I'm a 14)

Any ideas? I just want a plain top!

i have some from esprit - really nice, keep shape and are thicker than usual, not too expensive

sandytoes79 · 24/09/2010 14:30

GAP? Mine always keep shape from there.

ChippyMinton · 24/09/2010 14:32

uniqlo heatech - thin, so good for layering.

I have one of these White Company long sleeved tops in white and it's had 20+ washes and hasn't shrunk or lost its shape.

I haven't got one of the black ones though so can't vouch for colour fastness but generally White Company clothes are long lasting so it should be ok.

If you're looking for something long line for wearing over skinnies or leggings then I bought this Dorothy Perkins top in black last week and it's been washed and tumble dried twice and it's kept its colour and length.

I'm a size 12 but bought a 16 as they look very small on the hanger. Lots of stretch though so the 14 would have been fine. If you're a 16 then the 18 would be best if you don't want it to be too clingy.

I've got one of the White Company ones in black. It must be 6 years old (seem to recall wearing it long before being pg with ds1). It has faded a bit - I've worn it a helluva lot over the years - but it has kept its shape.

MrsJohnDeere · 24/09/2010 14:43

I bought one from Gap last year and it lost its colour (quite badly) after two washes and went straight into my gardening/dogwalking/decorating tops pile.

moragbellingham · 24/09/2010 15:14

I think White Co jerseywear is very good too.
Very stretchy but not too clingy and washes well.
My black one is fading now but I have had it 18 months!

You've just gone and made me order 2 more now!!

It's such a basic winter item I keep looking for mine or something similar virtually every morning these days.

BelligerentGhoul · 24/09/2010 17:49

Gap ones are terrible now. I quite like the M&S Limited Collection ones - will try and link, if they still have them.

Am now v tempted by the WC ones though.

I bought a really nice on from Next - pretty sure it is in this months Directory.

I like it because it has 5% lycra so really keeps its shape.

I bought 1 and then 3 more.

Thanks everyone, will have a look at those places next time I go shopping - I only live in a small place so don't have any near!

Amanderrr I love that DP top, will have a look!

Nancydrewrocked - I've just looked online at Next. Is it the £12 scoop necked one?
