Waterproof jacket/clothes for children on the school?

Hi,

I'm new to Mumsnet and need some advice please?

My son has just started reception and on Thurs/Fri I walk him to school with my youngest (3) in the pram. With the wet weather fast approaching, I don't know what is best to get him for walking in the rain? It takes us about 30mins (uphill) to get to school.

Do I get an all-in-one suit to go over his uniform and coat? Or a waterproof coat/trouser? Wellies?

Can he wear wellies into school or do i change his shoes before he goes in?? Same goes with waterproof trousers?

Help....i HATE the rain!

Kay.

I would carry school shoes and have them wear wellies for walking. A long waterproof light jacket with hood is the most practical option, ime. I've managed to get by without waterproof trousers as long as wellies were tall enough and jacket long enough.

I only use waterproof trousers on the really really wet days, they're usually fairly cheap to get hold of and last for years if you buy them big (my nearly 7yo ds has just grown out of a muddy puddles pair after 4 years! cannot recommend them enough and they do a long coat too). He won't wear the waterproof trousers in school tho, there's no time for them to change in and out of them so take them back with you. All in ones are just too difficult to get in and out of and too babyish for this age, plus not as flexible. Make sure the wellies are comfortable if he's walking for 60 mins in them, I got cheapo ben 10 ones from asda and ds1 won't touch them now.
There was a thread about coats recently, little trekkers is a good start though, they have a good range.
