Has anyone been to Marrakech? What did you wear in the day/evening?

We are going next week, eek! Obviously want to be respectful of Muslim culture but also want to dress up for evening! I've got a couple of maxi dresses but any other ideas?

Thanks

Last time we went was in March so obv. a little cooler than now.

I wore linen trousers, a long linen skirt, shirts with vest tops underneath, ballet slippers. I covered my arms most of the time, but I think that you'd get away with a modest t-shirt. I didn't need to cover my head for anything, but kept a scarf in my bag just in case. You'll be wanting a sunhat during the day! I picked up a couple of ladies' kaftan shirts in the souk which were really cool and comfy to wear with trousers.

I found that most local women wore traditional dress but a proportion wore (modest) western dress. Not all local women covered their heads. There were a few tourists (mostly young Americal women) wearing more 'conventional' tourist clothes and they stood out like a sore thumb and looked very self conscious.

If you are staying in a traditional riad, it will be cool even during the day beacuase of the way they are designed.

Hope that you have a lovely time, it's a great city with fantastic food, culture and inhabitants!

Agree with bowbluebell. I went October last year and it was still very warm. I wore linen trousers, shirts, skirts that came below the knee, flat shoes, etc.

Also agree that it is a great city, although the call to prayer is a very loud call that makes you jump out of your skin about 5 times a day Smile

Thanks both! Got a pashmina for covering up but will no doubt collect a couple more whilst i am there. Must get a hat- if I can find one now. Typical last minute. Those kaftan shirts sound lovely, very cool.

We are staying in a Riad in the medina, really can't wait!
