Tell me how to do a REALLY SIMPLE 50's hairdo...

I'm going to a party with a fifties theme. I've got a brilliant swing dress and fab shoes, and I've even found a red lipstick that doesn't make me look like a tranny!

But my hair! I'm rubbish at styling my own hair so need help. I've got dark layered hair wirh a fringe (and the fringe has to stay as I look awful without it). It's just below shoulder length. For want of a better description, it's a bit of a "rachel", the shortest layers at the back aren't quite ear length.
My hair is quite fine but a little wiry so tends to look bushy.
I've got not particularly good straigteners, curling tongues, and one of those air blowing styler-things.

I can't put curlers in or anything like that as I'm busy during the daytime so won't have the time.

My friends will be available to help.

I'm tempted to do a high pony tail but it won't be quite smart enough plus doesn't really work with my current layers.

I've got a flower to pin it it though Smile

Help!

I was going to suggest a straightened and gloss sprayed ponytail. red ribbon and fringe.

Perfect for a 50's do.

I wore my hair like this for a rock n roll night and it stayed in place all night.
