Tights or bare legs?

I have bought this dress for three Winter weddings. I have already got these shoes. I would go fake tan bare legs. But some people have said black tights and black shoes.I think black tights would ruin the dress, and I am quite happy to suffer cold legs for a bit in the name of fashion. It is not as though I am going to be sitting outside all day! Thoughts?

I would say perhaps nude fishnets - I know that sounds strange, but think it would good with that dress and shoes.

here - but rubbish pic!

Have seen it, and it works in a classy way.

TechLovingDad · 19/09/2010 19:16

Bare legs. Actually, that's not very helpful, I'll leave now Grin

traceybath · 19/09/2010 19:18

Definitely bare legs.

Piece in this issue of vogue all about bare legs in winter - its very chic and very New York apparently.

As you say its not as though you'll be outside for hours.

Are you going to wear a coat though otherwise you may be a bit too chilly.

alfabetty · 19/09/2010 19:19

Agree with the nude fishnets, I wear them all the time and they are a good compromise between bare legs and American Tans.

Never black with that dress, agree it would ruin the look completely. Black shoes only go with black dresses.

Bunbaker · 19/09/2010 19:22

Barely black tights. I hate the bare leg look in winter. Cold, red, raw looking legs are not a good look.

I also like the micronet tights.

woopsidaisy · 19/09/2010 19:44

Thanks all. Yes,will definately be wearing a coat.Definately going to try the fishnets, but think I will go bare legged...find tights quite uncomfortable actually!

Definitely bare legs with a dash of fake tan, unless you're spectacularly blotchy of leg? Doesn't sound like it, and the dress is almost knee-covering for the standing around outside bit, anyway.

And also nude fishnets - I second the idea, they're surprisingly good especially with those lovely patent shoes, I wouldn't recommend them for anything with a peep toe but that's just me...

Love the dress and shoes. Black tights would be an abomination in the eyes of God and Man, not to put too fine a point on it.

GeekOfTheWeek · 19/09/2010 19:53

I agree bare would be better as long as your legs don't resemble the colour and texture of stilton cheese Grin

Bare legs in winter look awful - really cheap. Definitely tights of some sort

traceybath · 19/09/2010 19:55

Interesting you say cheap.

You see in vogue they were saying in New York its what all the very chic ladies do as it shows they have fabulous glossy brown legs and go from limo to bar and so don't have to worry about getting cold.

Am sure Woopsi will have lovely brown well moisturised legs and they will look lovely!

BelligerentGhoul · 19/09/2010 19:59

Not bare legs - I agree that in winter bare legs look cheap and silly.

Lovely dress btw and nude fishnets would be good with it and go with the shoes too. If you don't like the feel of tights, you could go for nude fishnet hold ups.

Yeah, but I bet Vogue didn't say that last year and won't say it next year Grin

floweryblue · 19/09/2010 20:13

I think bare legs look odd in winter, as do tights in summer (this time of year is a minefield as it is changeover time for me!). Flesh or nude, maybe glossy, tights or stockings would be my advice.

alfabetty · 19/09/2010 20:15

The other reason I like nude fishnets is that they are a lot lighter (airer??) to wear than regular tights, so you might be OK.

traceybath · 19/09/2010 20:20

True said but the wedding is this year Wink

Please not glossy flesh coloured tights though - early 90's flashback.

I think fake tan looks pretty grim at any time, personally. Would rather be pale and uninteresting!

traceybath · 19/09/2010 20:28

A little bit of fake tan is fine - depends on application and judicious use.

However I am always so bloody freezing - I'd have my thermals on, woolly tights and knee high boots.

Although I guess its possible the wedding is all in one venue so you won't be outside at all.

Depends how much you're prepared to suffer for beauty Wink

woopsidaisy · 19/09/2010 23:09

Wow! So many responses, thanks. I actually have great legs-or so all my friends tell me! No varicose veins etc...yet! I tend to wear tinted moisturiser as opposed to actual fake tan,as I think it is more subtle, start applying it three nights before and it gives a lovely "glow" without the dreaded "tangoed" look! Think I shall go bare legged...cheap it is,LOL! Wink

Never ever bare legs no matter how good your legs are.

I've worked in London and Paris. Women in London somehow think it's okay to wear no tights to work/dressy occasions. Women in Paris think differently.

woopsidaisy · 20/09/2010 08:23

Good job I live in Ireland then! Do you suggest flesh coloured tights? As I have to agree with Traceybath...they are fashion suicide! Just because women in Paris think something is a la mode, doesn't mean it is...

OP posts:
Mooos · 20/09/2010 09:28

Woopsidaisy - agreed. I'm simply naming two of the world's fashion capitals and I'm not from either of these two countries. Did you want me to tell you what women in Bakersfield were wearing?!

I, personally, think that sheer, almost black, thin denier tights/stockings always look good and classy.

woopsidaisy · 20/09/2010 09:42

Fair enough...and here I was imagining you drifting around Paris,in 15 dernier black tights. Was a bit jealous,LOl!

traceybath · 20/09/2010 10:49

Mooos - women in New York would never wear tights.

Its horses for courses Wink

Mooos · 20/09/2010 13:09

Yeah..but women in NY wear training shoes with their work suits. Stylish ?
