Bastards!!!

pinkbasket · 15/09/2010 14:00

Oh no. What did you lose? Did you have your receipt in the bag as you might have to cancel your bank card.

reikizen · 15/09/2010 14:04

Someone stole a handknitted cardi off dd2's buggy once in the trafford centre, I was so cross (and it's horrible how you don't even notice them doing it!)

mollyroger · 15/09/2010 14:06

Where were you when it happened? There is a slim chance they might have been caught on CCTV if it was in a shop or shopping centre...persuading store to look for you might be more hassle than the shopping is worth though tbh.

It is an awful feeling being a victim of theft. :(

moragbellingham · 15/09/2010 14:06

They took some adult clothes and the receipt so I assumed they would try and return (or steal some more and return) for cash.

Doesn't the receipt only have the last four digits printed on it on?

Getting slightly worried...

Bloody hell - this is the second buggy theft I've heard of in 24 hours. The other one was a pair of kids shoes off the hood of the buggy! That's rubbish. Receipts generally only have last 4 digits printed on them.

moragbellingham · 15/09/2010 14:09

I went to loads of stores in a shopping centre with two loopy/sceaming toddlers.
I think that someone must've been eyeing up the bags for a while and waiting for me to run after one of my DC.

I though most places would only return money to the method it was paid.

Clumsy worded but if you paid cash you get cash back. If you paid on your card the refund would go on the card.

I may be wrong but the best they may get is an exchange for something they want.

It's still a shit thing to happen though.

mollyroger · 15/09/2010 14:09

Unfortunately, some people now deliberately target mums with buggies, judging they might be slightly preoccupied...

you could try stashing valuable shopping somewhere less obvious and using a nice tempting bag hanging off the buggy handles as a recepticle
for used nappies...that'll teach the light-fingered barstewards next timeGrin

miche8 · 15/09/2010 14:11

How horrible, start putting the nappy bag on the top, so that would need removing first. Makes me feel quite sick that someone like that can get that close to your child in the pushchair. More of a reason to shop over the internet.

bluecardi · 15/09/2010 14:13

Once we had a bag stolen on a train journey. Was our bin bag for the trip lol

miche8 · 15/09/2010 14:27

Might be worth reporting it to the shopping centre and the police so they are aware of whats happening and can warn other shoppers. Do you think if you paid by credit card there is anyway you are covered?

DameGladys · 15/09/2010 14:31

Someone once told me how they had been sick into their handbag after a night out. The bag was then snatched.

An idea for next time?

(They weren't a massively close friend.)

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 15/09/2010 14:32

"so I assumed they would try and return (or steal some more and return) for cash."

They would only be able to return for refund cash if they had the card they paid with,DH took some stuff back last week with my card and I had given him the wrong PIN and without that they would only give him a credit note (and that's because he had the card)

moragbellingham · 15/09/2010 17:39

Yes you're right, maybe there will be some GAP credit notes being exchanged very soon at the branch.
I think I may ring the centre/branch as have been up in the security area before when my purse was taken in Mothercare.
They have a suprising number of undercover staff there.

I'll find out about the credit card coverage too (is carelessness a valid reason thoughHmm). it's worth looking into.

Gap receipts only have the last four digits (at least the two I've used recently did) so you shoudld be okay. Probably too late re exchange as they would have done that the same day unfortunately.

InVinoFerretsAss · 15/09/2010 17:47

Someone stole a bag from my mum in the same way whilst walking down a high street. In a wonderful stroke of karma it was a carrier bag containing a bag of poo from her dog that she was looking to drop in a litter bin!
I would have loved to see the look on their faces.
Sorry that happened to you OP, just have to believe that what goes around comes around!

The3Bears · 15/09/2010 17:54

How awful Angry

splashy · 15/09/2010 18:00

Customer receipts only ever have the last 4 digits of your card printed on.

Merchant receipts have the full card details (the receipt the shop keeps).

So no need to worry about your card details at least.

Sorry to hear your poor experience.

BicycleBelle · 15/09/2010 18:04

I once had my car broken into just before Xmas. Bastards took kids wrapped Xmas presents as well as a suitcase containing clothes and jewellery (we had just been to a wedding away from home). The only good thing about it was that one carrier bag contained used sanitaryware, as the hotel we had been staying in had ancient plumbing and no other means of disposal, so I was taking it away to dispose off in a place with bins or plumbing. I still like to think of their faces when they plunged their thieving hands into that bag . . .

mamatomany · 15/09/2010 18:11

Assuming the shop assistants are on the ball of course, I returned a dress to debenhams at the weekend that had been paid for on DH's card and refunded back on to mine, I bet they get away with it more often than not.

tethersend · 15/09/2010 20:04

Did you pay with a credit card? Can you get money back if something like this happens and you've paid by credit card?

Maybe someone else knows more...
