Maxi skirt

I really want a maxi skirt for this season. I held out against maxi dresses (can't do anything sleeveless or strappy) but I really like the idea of a long skirt.

There's a nice one in toast but I think it might be too gathered for me. Me & Em have a nice (tho expensive) jersey one, and this is Asos's version, which I think looks a bit cheap.

Any preferences, or ideas of where else I might look?

Ooh, me too, me too - want one in wool or heavy jersey type material - tried one in Oasis but material was too thin and showed every lump and bump of which sadly there are many ...

All Saints have one which I think could look lovely.

I have a warehouse one which is nice.

niminypiminy · 14/09/2010 16:32

Like the grey colour of the warehouse one but I'm worried about cling -- having the lumps and bumps issue too. There must be more about, they've been in every autumn trends article I've seen. But where?

Picture does not do it justice but I had the dress version of this for summer.

It was nice thick jersey but hung fairly straight. And the advantage of the tiers is that its not so clingy to lumps and bumps.

Have you seen these? They have co-ordinating tops too, including wrap style.

niminypiminy · 14/09/2010 16:51

like the idea of different colours, blossoming. But would I get hassled to get my colours done for ever if I bought from there?

I'm liking this - or this but far too pricey!

niminypiminy · 14/09/2010 17:08

ooh love that McQueen one but it's in the beyond my wildest dreams category!

What shoes would you wear with a maxi skirt in Winter/Autumn. I have one which I love, but only ever wear it with sandals in summer.

kdk · 14/09/2010 17:16

@ niminy - mine too unfortunately but there's no harm in dreaming ...

Don't be daft!! It's just a normal mail order company niminypiminy

BelligerentGhoul · 14/09/2010 17:20

Linea Weekend had a lovely charcoal one, which I posted about on here a while back. Unfortuantely, it was out of stock when I went to try it on. Also, I never did decide what kinds of shoes might go with it!

notyummy · 14/09/2010 19:59

OP - what sort of shape are you? I have recently bought an AMAZING maxi skirt (am pear shaped) that I think is very flattering. Even better with spanx Wink Not heavy material, but hangs well.

here

Tis lovely on.

happilyeverafter · 14/09/2010 20:13

Notyummy I have been struggling to get a maxi long enough but going by reviews that one should be perfect. Did your usual size fit?

notyummy · 14/09/2010 20:19

I am 5 10 and it fits me. True to size I think.

happilyeverafter · 14/09/2010 20:20

Oh fab, Thank you.

niminypiminy · 15/09/2010 09:29

Oh dear I'm only 5 4 so that one might be too long. But am pear shaped too so VERY good to hear it's flattering.

I'm thinking of wearing my clogs with it -- I have a lovely silver pair that haven't seen much use over the summer.

Just seen this velvet one

HalfTermHero · 15/09/2010 11:15

I agree that they are a nice idea but the reality will be very different. Think, wet, soggy, muddy lower third of skirt and you will get the idea. I wore a maxi dress on the weekend, whilst I was out I got caught in a torrential downpour. Despite the fact that it did not actually touch the floor, the hemline sucked it up to a hardcore degree. It put in a performance to equal that of those who suck cocks down the docks for 50p a time Grin.
