Hi All,

I need some help please from all you lovely mummies out there!

I am trying to find a nice, pretty, lightweight waterproof coat for my 7 year old. She is very tall for her age so would probably need one aged 8 or 8-9.

I have tried looking in a couple of shops (Marks and Spencers; Next) and looked at several online companies and can't find anything that fits the bill. Although there are lots of pretty raincoats out there, the suppliers seem to stop making them beyond age 5/6. I would also like it to be a proper rainproof, and not a flimsy 'can barely cope with a shower without soaking through the lining' type. I'm not after a thick winter coat either.

Has anyone seen anyone who has them for older girls? She's not quite ready for boring single colour ones yet, and why should she be. Flowers / butterflies / cute animals rule!

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried outdoorsy places like Millets and Mountain Warehouse? They tend to have good lightweight waterproofs. Mostly plainish - my 7-year-old DD chose a turquoise and grey one - but they do have some patterns, eg this one.

Have a look at Viking Kids & Waterproof world, both should some choice. Regatta definitely do lots of girly proper rain jackets.

My dd had Hadley raincoat last year. It kept her dry whilst also being colourful.

Try Zara, such nice raincoats for such reasonable price- i always buy everything from there. Even UniQlo is pretty goood!

Go outdoors have some, our outlet mall has various outdoor places.

DD2 (11) has a new plain purple one, but I can't find it Grrrr!

I like, joules, really good quality, not too thick, would buy a bigger size as small fitting. They're expensive but they do last.

google didriksons. they have nice styles and being swedish sizes come up big and the quality is fab. I think vikings has a selection as well.
