Girly But not Sparkly Coat for DD

pearlsandtwinset · 09/09/2010 10:41

Has anyone seen some (not astronomically expensive but doesn't have to be cheap cheap) winter coat (i.e. warm, water resistant) for DD that isn't pink or purple/covered in sparkles etc?

Last year I resorted to a brown and pale blue ski jacket from M&S, distinctly boy coat but want something a little more feminine this year without being too over the top.

I could rant and grumble for ages on my desperation that girls are so pigeon holed into what I don't want!

Red would be good! Any suggestions and help appreciated!

DD is 3.

I have just bought DD a red coat from debenhams. She hates pink. Its fleece lined, padded with a hood and a little embroidery thingy on it. Will go and find a link....

Feelingsensitive · 09/09/2010 12:53

Can't see it on their website but they have loads of red coats and 25% off today. I also saw a nice red one at M and S the other day.

mejon · 09/09/2010 13:37

This is nice from M&S - it is water-repellent too. Also comes in blue with pink spots that doesn't look too fancy or pink!

Millie1 · 09/09/2010 16:07

Not water resistant but John Lewis parka and water resistant but pink or purple

moragbellingham · 09/09/2010 20:23

I've just bought this red tesco one to see what it's like. (Thanks to who ever linked on Runs earlier thread).
She has a padded brown H&M one which I may keep for next year or pass down to DD2

moragbellingham · 09/09/2010 20:25

Boden with code = £26

tethersend · 09/09/2010 21:32

What code, morag?

I quite like that for DD...

serin · 09/09/2010 22:14

XTHB gets you £10 off a £30 spend Smile

moragbellingham · 10/09/2010 09:56

Hope it never runs out - the Boden code! I've been buying in samll £30 batches.

bunnymother · 10/09/2010 10:14

I buy DD's woollen coats from Zara and er parkas from Gap (they do down filled ones) or Zara (polyester filled, though). If that's a bit exxy new - always lots on eBay.

Rockbird · 10/09/2010 10:16

I just bought a lovely one from Sainsburys. Not recommending it as it has the NIght Garden embroidered on it and I'm sure that's frowned up on MN but it's a lovely green, nice and bright without being neon and not a trace of pink.

moragbellingham · 10/09/2010 17:56

Got the red Boden coat today.
Doesn't feel very warm though it always had good reviews.

H&M have some good green ones in (plus other colours). Their winter jackets are very good and waterproof/warm - I got one for DD last year (brown, from the boys' section). Last year only the boys' section had green - this year they've extended it to the girls as well.

They also have padded waterproof trousers in already that are very good value (but sell out fast). Less colour choice than with the coats, but the green coat and pink trousers would look good together.
