What do your dds wear on their feet when they walk to school in the rain but it's not so wet to need wellies?

Looking for some proper waterproof shoes/boots that aren't granny style!

At the moment dd1(8) has a pair of bright pink patent Dr Martens but the patent coating is coming off and she wants something different.

DD2 (5) has a pair of leather and suede boots that don't really cut the mustard when the rain is more than a light drizzle.

So, what do your dds wear?

Mine have to wear school shoes they wear the ones that are covered on the top and have velcro.

Clumsymum · 08/09/2010 10:55

proper school shoes ?

oneofthosedays · 08/09/2010 13:30

DD's school shoes are fairly closed but she does have a pair of patent boots for 'best' which can be used to cover a bit more - but it is only a 5 min walk to DD's school!

bigchris · 08/09/2010 13:31

School shoes

bigchris · 08/09/2010 13:32

Why would you send your dd to school wearing bright pink doc martins?!!

nearlytoolate · 08/09/2010 13:50

I have boys but they wear normal shoes that get a bit damp Grin

bunjies · 08/09/2010 18:57

Thanks for the comments.

bigchris - why not?? I don't understand your surprise. They're extremely waterproof, leather and look funky. Unfortunately the patent ones have not lasted as long as ds' ordinary black ones, which is another reason why I wouldn't want to buy them again, even if they did do kids sizes anymore - which they don't Sad. They are fabulous and support the foot and ankle really well. Dcs don't have to wear school uniform as we live in France (not that that is an issue as we are happy to buy anywhere) so they don't have the same restrictions on footwear. I think 'school' shoes would look odd without a uniform.

Does anyone's dds wear boots to school? For those of you whose dds wear shoes, how do you stop their feet from getting wet on the top? Can you link to styles?

My dds will wear trainers when it's fine during the colder months (sandals during the summer) so it's proper waterproof shoes/boots I'm after really.

Ds has also grown out of his DMs though so that's another shopping nightmare.

geox are waterproof, but sound boring next to pink docs quite frankly! What would she think of pink croc wellies?

Mine wear wellies when there is so much as a hint of rain Grin

bunjies · 08/09/2010 22:08

Trouble with wearing wellies is dd has pongy feet at the best of times and so I wouldn't relish the thought of her wearing them all day at school. Yes, she could take them off and change but that's an extra faff. Hmmm, I can see this becoming as fraught as my search for a really good waterproof jacket.

8y DD has school shoes or wellies. They are the only option available to her for school wear. At school she is only allowed to wear black school shoes, but can wear wellies if properly wet at break/lunch.

semicolon · 08/09/2010 22:13

er

school shoes?

accessorizequeen · 08/09/2010 22:13

ordinary boots that you put waterproofing spray on perhaps? Lots of adults do that.
I'm sure plenty of people here to help you find perfect waterproof coat as well :)

bunjies · 09/09/2010 13:19

Still not understanding the school shoes recs as I don't see any that cover the whole foot. For example this from the Clarks school range. There is a big gap at the top of the foot. Even these hideous Startrite ones have holes.

Sorry, being very fussy and difficult I know.

I think the only option is to go for boots like these but then how do you wear them with trousers? What they need are some decent ankle boots but the only proper waterproof ones are hiking/walking boots which are a bit OTT for school!

Ironically the best waterproof jackets I got for the dcs came from Decathlon sports shop and are meant for outdoor pursuits.

look

MrsDoofenshmirtz · 09/09/2010 13:24

or Yes they are not beautiful but they are functional which is the point of school shoes.

bunjies · 10/09/2010 09:15

Yes, those certainly fit the bill in terms of functionality. I wish I could find similar but not so austere. I do wish sometimes they did have uniform over here. It would make life so much easier! Thanks for all the recs.

What about kickers? Pretty funky, sturdy and stand up to the rain?

bunjies · 11/09/2010 21:45

Ooh, I'd forgotten about kickers. I think they even sell them over here too. Thanks accessorizequeen Grin.

accessorizequeen · 11/09/2010 22:27

Yay! And they do pink ones!

TheNextMrsDepp · 11/09/2010 22:32

Wellies, but only if it's really lashing down or snowy. But they would always change into school shoes when they get indoors - why would that be a "faff"?
