Not sure this is quite style and beauty but never mind...

Any suggestions where I can buy a lovely school bag for DS1 my PFB who is starting school next week? I want something cool but not Ben10 plastic.

Does he need a school bag? What's he going to put in it?

theyoungvisiter · 03/09/2010 20:37

I don't know! His lunch maybe?!

I just assumed he would need one.

Do you think he doesn't?

most primary schools have a book bag that you buy from the school

GypsyMoth · 03/09/2010 20:38

my friend got some nice ones from clarks, around £8 i think

but yes,its surely more bookbags at this age?

they don't have bags at ds1's school. just a book bag with the school logo on

theyoungvisiter · 03/09/2010 20:40

oh well that's a relief - I suppose they didn't have book bags in our day.

While I have you experts on - does he need a pencil case? I'm sure I was packed off to school on my first day with a new satchel and a little pencilcase but that was back in the Victorian era.

no, they'll provide pencils and everything

nancy75 · 03/09/2010 20:43

no pencils/pencil case here either. if he is having packed lunch he just need to take a lunch box

Mine all needed bags from the start of Reception.

DD, who is currently in Reception, has one like this. The boys, who are in Years 2 and 3, have similar ones but far bigger.

They have side pockets for water bottles, enough room for the stuff they need to take in (sports/swimming kits, waterproofs, homework, reading book, snack etc etc), and are easy to carry on the walk to school.

Mine didn't need pencil cases until Yr 1 though.

well perhaps we'll turn up empty handed on the first day and see if we get shouted at. There was nothing in the letter so I shall use that in my defence.

They do definitely have book bags - I've seen other children carrying them.

DD has a small Regatta backpack. Not a lot in it at the moment - just her playtime snack, waterbottle and change of clothes 'just in case' (has only just turned 4).
