Am off to get some new glasses this afternoon. What kind of frames should I be buying?

I have always HATED those Gok ones with the big wide arms and have never succumbed. And that style must have had their day now?

So what do you think a round faced woman in her forties should be wearing? Are the bigger lenses with chunkier frames coming back in?

I'm the same as you. I despise those science goggle looking frames. They make the wearer look like Heston Blumenthal. Not very attractive imo.

I bought these a few months ago. The look good with my dark hair and are slightly retro in a Nana Mouskouri kinda way which I like Smile.

Ooh, they're lovely Bunny.

Marking my place - I'm off the the opticians next week too.

I love the Nana Mouskouri now look although would have to say I was doing it a long time before geek chic became fashionable.
I hate seeing celebs wearing them, some of us had no choice!

My very fashionable optician has ordered these for herself. But is this what you mean about the wide sides?

I like the Cookie frame in tortoiseshell Bunny, think I might see what they look like on too.

VerityBrulee · 03/09/2010 15:33

I have a wardrobe of glasses thanks to my optician mother Smile

I am very pale so find that black frames are too harsh on me, I wear tortoiseshell instead, and for winter I have a very flattering pair in deep raspberry pink which gives my deathly winter pallor a lift.

I think there is a move away from those shallow rectangular frames which are everywhere, I prefer something slightly curvier, I think they are more flattering.

Hope you get something fabulous Smile

I need new glasses too. Also have pale skin with the added complication of a pudding round face.

At the moment I have these in the red. Don't know what to go for next.

I desperately need new glasses. I had my eyes check a couple of weeks ago, but got into a bit of a state trying to chose a new pair, so made my excuses and left. The 16 year old 'advisor' didn't help much - he was so young and fresh faced that I looked more fat and old with every pair I tried on. I didn't realise I could browse online, I will give it a try.
