Help me 'autumise' this wedding outfit

I went to a summer wedding and wore a lovely, simple black dress, with cream accessories (bracelets, earrings, large flower in hair, bag, shoes). I would like to wear the same dress to another wedding in October, but it's relatively short, so not sure I could get away with bare legs again. I'm not a big fan of leg coloured tights, plus not sure they would be warm enough. But obviously don't want to wear black tights with cream shoes.

Any suggestions? I'm thinking that darker shoes would make the whole outfit a bit funereal. In fact, black tights would probably also do that. Am I going to have to go shopping again...? I don't think I can bear/afford it...

Can you link to the dress (or a similar one)?

strongblackcoffee · 03/09/2010 12:45

Not entirely unlike this - my dress does have some detail around the neck, but it's all in black. And mine is cotton, not silk. But a similar sort of shape.

Do you have any brown boots? They would look nice with it and thick black tights, green or brown jacket or shawl type thing and a brown & cream flower.

I do have brown boots, that's a good idea!! Although they're a bit old. Hmmm... don't mind doing more shopping if it's for new boots Grin

If anyone has any links to suggest for brown jackets that would be great! Pref something reasonably casual, I'm not the dressiest dresser at the best of times...

Would you wear cream tights?

cyteen · 03/09/2010 13:58

I think I might go for a bright contrasting shrug e.g. turquoise, with black patterned tights (to break up the solid black a bit) and bright shoes.

You may not want to take style advice from me though Grin

I was thinking along the lines of teaming it with tan/brown so am glad you like Maybe's suggestion.

My friend wore a similar one to a wedding with black leggings - a bit thinker/warmer than tights?

NotFromConcentrate · 03/09/2010 14:10

I love cyteen's idea - bright shrug and shoes, and patterned tights Grin

cyteen · 03/09/2010 14:11

Hooray, validation! Grin

Tan/brown seems a bit dowdy to me, with a black dress.

LackingInspiration · 03/09/2010 14:12

Another vote for cyteen's idea Smile

Antidote · 03/09/2010 14:24

Definitely agree with cyteen:

Black patterned or nude tights, then splash out on bright coloured shoes and shrug, and feathery thing for head.

I'm a complete sucker for teal / dark turquoise which IMO goes with brown, navy, black & cream so gets well used. Alternatively purple, burgundy or emerald?

mmmperuna · 03/09/2010 14:39

What cyteen said - black and brown can be quite a draining combo
