If I love Orla Kiely bags but can't stretch to one - what's similar?

Yes, as a crafter I know that is NOT easy. Remember it takes ages to make some things by hand - if I was paid at my day-job's hourly rate for something I made, an embroidered card would cost about £50.

Anyway, there are a lot of OK sample sales in London, so I'd recommend signing up to the newsletter and waiting until you're likely to visit (or use it as an excuse to book). I got a make-up bag from there for £20 and a wallet for £15, which are Accessorize prices really.

My friend went for me and as soon as she got there she was raving on the phone to me about the huge amount of stock and the bargains to be had. It was agonising not to be there in person! We started with her trying to send picture messages on her phone and after some agonising technology problems I realised I could google if she told me the name of designs. I still have a horrid feeling I may have missed out on lots of good bargains but she did get me :
cinnamon boulevard midi sling for £20
moss reflected trees shoulder bag for £20

I really hope OP sees this and is able to send a friend shopping as I doubt you could even get a bag in New Look for those prices!

CakeandRoses · 11/09/2010 09:49

Hoping to finally get the floral Macbook skin of my dreams.

Off-topic alert - look at this bit of Folksy weirdness...

Howmanytimes · 11/09/2010 09:58

That apple messenger bag is made out of my kitchen tablecloth!

4plus1 · 11/09/2010 10:18

Oh no headbanger i'm going to have nightmares about that crrepy woman and her knited 'folksy' beard!

EldonAve · 11/09/2010 18:20

anyone know if queues are likely at the sample sale?

EldonAve · 11/09/2010 19:41

quick bump

tattycoram · 11/09/2010 22:32

I've been to one - there were queues when I got there, but that was quite early in the day. If you are thinking of going tomorrow (Sunday) I would have thought there might be tbh. I'd get there early.

EldonAve · 11/09/2010 22:34

thanks

mysteryfairy · 12/09/2010 10:14

My friend got there at sixish on friday and it was relatively quiet. It got busy over the next hour, presumably as people came out of work, and she said piles of the real bargains were vanishing in front of her eyes.

There is so much stuff on ebay already.

EldonAve · 12/09/2010 16:38

thanks, we got there just before they opened and it was civilised
