too tight shoes

Wasn't sure where to post this, but anyhow...
Son has bought v.expensive pair of shoes that he now says are too tight for him. He has a huge blister on his heel and is very depressed that he may not be able to wear them again. Does anyone know a surefire way of stretching leather (suede) shoes? I see Amazon sell shoe stretchers and a special spray but that will be about £20! Anyone any ideas? Thanks.

You could ask at a shoe repair place like Timpsons to see what they recommend.

Thanks. Yes, we have a very good (but expensive) shoe repairers nearby but I was kind of hoping to avoid any more expenditure on these shoes. Still, if DS never wears them again they will be have been extremely expensive :(

do they just need breaking in? get him to put on a plaster, thick socks and wear them for short periods round the house.

i think i read stuffing shoes with wet newspaper too can stretch them. Not sure if i would do this to suede though. I hope he sprays them with protector should he ever wear them out.

I had my shoes stretched at Timpsons for four quid. I loved them and had totally given up on them. They needed doing twice and they didn't charge me for the second time so doesn't need to be expensive.

use the freezer- check out this

olderandwider · 02/09/2010 21:43

Wow. Frozen water to expand shoes. Who knew? Thanks twoboots. although my freezer is so full I am not sure I can shoehorn in a pair of size 9 men's shoes!

Miche8 - I think we will try breaking them in a bit - thicker socks, plasters etc are the way to go. And yes, he has sprayed them with suede protector.

TitchWitch - I will find my nearest Timpson's if the other methods fail.
